Yea seems like this has the potential to catch metro Tampa a little unaware.

Hopefully it doesn’t push into category 3 territory, because there are a lot of houses tucked in the eastern edge of that cone.

Also tip of the cap for Duke for discussing the potential for a higher intensity storm earlier than most.

Because of the time between dates in the cone they don’t have it as a major, but I wonder if they’d slap an M on there if they thought it would get there between the 48 and 72 hour marks? In other words, I wonder if they’d pull it up to a major earlier than they projected just to get point across to Floridians. As of right now this is expected to make landfall as a category 2, and that doesn’t really move the needle for many people, unfortunately.

Bad thing is their local media isn't catching on to this at all and is behind. Need to beat people now if they're in the target area because stores going to get hit tomorrow.

Figured it was going to cook tonight. That burst heading into DM, just off land, downstream storms over the peninsula feeding into it. Yep, had that feel.

I really want to get into the semantics game of what I meant by rapid. but Ill just take the L.

, it may fall in the RI definition - 35 mph in 24 hours isn’t much considering we already got 15 mph in the last 3 hours.

That seems really hard to believe when they got punched in the mouth by Michael 5 years ago in a very similar path/timeline.

Feeder band beginning to set up near the southeast quadrant (another sign of strengthening)

As of 10pm, they are saying Cedar Key area. The problem is ANY shift to the right is bad news for Tampa Bay Area.

Ian spared Tampa because it came to the south of the city giving Tampa Bay an offshore wind the whole time.

Any chance this storm will affect the high pressure thats been lingering around here for 3 months and finally bring us some normal damn weather patterns; aka rain?

You are correct - may end up being the strongest storm surge to impact Tampa Bay in quite some time (worse than Ian). Fingers crossed that is not the case. Y’all have a good night…

Woof - and it appears some dumbo hit the wrong button and put diesel in regular gas in dozens of citgo supplied gas stations in Tampa yesterday. Not ideal timing.

Just told my my old buddy and his family in St Pete to head to the store early in the morning, he said there isn’t much/little urgency in the Tampa metro right now

This could be a major problem… what a dunce. I could maybe understand it once, but
Not at multiple stations….
