With all due respect, whether you’re scared or not is irrelevant. Make a logical decision based on the facts you’ve been presented countless times.
If your home is threatened by serious surge, that water won’t give a shite about your mindset or demeanor.

There’s got to be another way out. We’ve left in the daytime and it sucked.
Once we had to wait until midnight for my husbands work and it was smooth sailing.
Tell your buddy you love him and bye. I hope that he decides to leave … if it’s just him, well that’s his choice. But a family … nope.

They can’t do contraflow because the only way they get fuel is through the the 3 ports, and then hauled around by truck, iirc, 40-50% through Tampa. They don’t allow pipelines, so they get screwed anytime there is a storm. Contaflow would cause the evacuees to run out of fuel quite quickly.

One year she was using geometry to calculate if a tree would reach her house. (Pretty sure it was Liz)

We always tell her to just leave. She never does. Dont know why we're doing this dance again. She'll stay. Hopefully she doesnt flood.
Worst case, I drown, Aspy smirks, you say "I told you so" and you never have to see me post again.
I am inland enough not to be afraid. The city has done flood mitigation projects. I may be stupid, but I am not an idiot. I hope to remain around a long time just to piss off Aspy, who has some strange fascination with me.

That mentality is just crazy to me. I’m not there to see the traffic, but I can’t help but think going south to Miami or Key West would be a better option than staying.
The best decision we ever made was getting out before Hurricane Katrina hit. Our house was still standing, but the surge came up the bayou and flooded our house. There was no electricity for weeks. It was certainly not a place I wanted my family to be at that time. I cannot understand people wanting to stay.

A bunch of 2x4s going 150-180 mph are pretty much going to go through anything people. If your get a single breech in your hurricane proof house you are screwed.

quote:
A storm descends on a small town, and the downpour soon turns into a flood. As the waters rise, the local preacher kneels in prayer on the church porch, surrounded by water. By and by, one of the townsfolk comes up the street in a canoe.
"Better get in, Preacher. The waters are rising fast."
"No," says the preacher. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me."
Still the waters rise. Now the preacher is up on the balcony, wringing his hands in supplication, when another guy zips up in a motorboat.
"Come on, Preacher. We need to get you out of here. The levee's gonna break any minute."
Once again, the preacher is unmoved. "I shall remain. The Lord will see me through."
After a while the levee breaks, and the flood rushes over the church until only the steeple remains above water. The preacher is up there, clinging to the cross, when a helicopter descends out of the clouds, and a state trooper calls down to him through a megaphone.
"Grab the ladder, Preacher. This is your last chance."
Once again, the preacher insists the Lord will deliver him.
And, predictably, he drowns.
A pious man, the preacher goes to heaven. After a while he gets an interview with God, and he asks the Almighty, "Lord, I had unwavering faith in you. Why didn't you deliver me from that flood?"
God shakes his head. "What did you want from me? I sent you two boats and a helicopter."

I’m glad we left, we got 12-15 feet of water and then another 6 for Rita
Of course that was a levee problem, but still to think of it and the possibility of a lot of water coming up, is scary

Totally not even the point. Your home could be removed from the face of the earth, with you in it.

this storm has me very uneasy.
uneasy? Are you even paying attention? If this storm takes one little jog to the east, your absolute best case scenario moving fgorward is that you will not have food, water, or electricity for WEEKS. People willl have to risk their lives to save your arse because you're think God is going to keep you dry?

Oh, do you think so, doctor?
