Reminds me of Opal. Similar time of year, development , movement , etc. Hopefully it doesn’t intensify like Opal as it approaches
Opal jogged West during the middle of the night and briefly looked like it was headed toward New Orleans. We ended up just getting wind and cloud cover from the west side.

5 different observations with extrapolated min pressure between 970.1mb to 970.8mb. True barometric pressure probably a couple ticks up from there but indication of continued deepening.

Latest hurricane model runs (max winds and lowest pressure at model increment just before landfall)
HMON - 90 mph and 972 mb at 7 PM Friday - Miramar Beach (peak of 954 mb and 125 mph)
HAFS-A - 110 mph and 964 mb at 7 PM Friday - Perdido Key/Pensacola (peak of 951 mb and 140 mph)
HAFS-B - 65 mph and 985 mb at 10 PM Friday - Perdido Key/Pensacola (peak of 953 mb and 125 mph)
HWRF - 100 mph and 964 mb at 7 PM Friday - Perdido Key/Pensacola (peak of 953 mb and 130 mph)
This is just one run and subject to change.
Models are converging on Perdido Key/Pensacola as landfall of center. HMON is the outlier of these at about 50 miles east.
All models begin rapid weakening as it approaches coastline. It will be a matter of how strong it is to start before weakening and how quickly it weakens for the ultimate strength at landfall.

It was a Cat 2 and wasn’t too big of a deal other than it hit at night, so you couldn’t tell what was going on. We never felt any danger, the main loss was rentals being suspended for a few weeks Some of the buildings were less fortunate and had major roof damage. I think the ones across from Walmart in Orange Beach got the worst from it. The Phoenix’s did okay.
That’s a crazy take.
My insurance agency (small) handled 700 claims and paid out over $13mil.
A quick google search shows $2-$3bil in damages.
Rank Cyclone Season Damage
1 Sally 2020 $7.3 billion
2 Isaias 2020 $5.02 billion
3 Imelda 2019 $5.0 billion
4 Debby 2024 $4.5 billion

Ok, maybe.
But if this is true. Is this the 1st time this has happened? In the history of earth?

Good luck. They have trouble keeping the lights on in that dump on a normal day.

Opel took basically the same route back in the 1990s
Opal in 1995 came through east central Alabama. Auburn was supposed to play Mississippi State that Thursday night on ESPN and the game got pushed back to Saturday.

The SEC is not going to do anything that might reduce Bama’s chance at winning a football game.
If Bryant Denny was in Orange Beach this game would be played as scheduled.
Contrast how the SEC handled this vs the debacle years ago with the LSU-Florida game.

Your nsswer of "What I seem sure of" changed what I said. You neither asked for, or were granted, permission to change my words. Can you provide the asked for info, or not. If not, no further pontificating about nothing is required.

Opal never really sniffed Nola. It’s hurricane lore in east central Alabama.

Opals did quite a bit of damage when it came thru the far western side of Atlanta. Carroll, Douglas, Cobb counties and northward. Seems like it was tropical storm+ the night it plowed thru our area lol...
Retired now and live 7 miles north of the beach in Gulf Shores now in Bon Secour...
