ABS Television/Radio is saying that the news out of Barbuda is not good. The Prime Minister just said Barbuda is totally devastated. 90% to almost 100% of all properties are completely damaged or totally demolished.
1000 homes are totally demolished.

Death count must be absolutely horrific

I was just reading an article about tower cranes in Miami and what this hurricane is going to do them. There are 20-25 cranes up right now and they are only rated for 145mph winds and they are afraid that they are going to start coming down when the hurricane hits. They are urging people to not stay in condos next to a construction site with a tower crane.
Miami lucked out during Andrew. Hopefully old timers who made it through that one relatively well off don't dismiss Irma because of that.

During Ivan they left all the cranes up in Orange Beach. Only 1 fell
ivan was only 140 mph though

Is this creeping anyone else out? I know he has a disease but....it's not really his good side.

i swear storms always avoid cuba.
Too much cigar smoke and pork. Not a healthy combination if you want to be a strong hurricane.

No clue what their prime minister has been thinking
Probably "I should stay my arse inside until the winds and rains are low enough to fly".

FWIW, Twitter had someone with a friend from the military saying Barbuda was in bad shape. They've been going nuts about it.

My friend's sister lives down there. Apparently school/work is still going on as scheduled today. Leaves 3 days to do something.

Barbuda
Isn't that the island that took a direct hit? There are going to be some dramatic images coming out of there soon.

Yep. The weather station got knocked out overnight after recording like 120 mph sustained and a gust of 158 or so. Which is the highest I've seen from this storm other than reconnaissance flights.

I thought I read where Barbuda was 100% evacuated before the storm?

I've been following it all day, there's two islands: Antigua and Barbuda, the PM lives in Antigua where the damage wasn't as bad and he released an official statement talking about how great everyone handled it in Antigua and Barbuda, yet he never communicated or visited Barbuda. Now that he's on the ground he's officially rescinded his prior statement.
