Yeah Jacksonville . We are in a tough location to bug out last minute. Will likely decide by friday morning.
We have actually had plans to go south and west before due to tge angle the storm took. This one may be the same.

o if we get it moving more east on the next run, that's at least a little hope.
Always good to see the trend running away from the states.

Looks like TropTidBits is pretty loaded down with viewers right now. Are there any past threads with the OT's favorite links for following storms?

Similar to Houston, I'd imagine that development in Miami over the past 20 years has gone into places that are more vulnerable to natural hazards.
So yes, it could be worse than Andrew.

If you live in Florida you better be booking a hotel room now. I was saw a news report that the casino hotels on the Miss Gulf Coast are booking up fast with Florida residents.

You will have high-rise developers salivating over the prospect that hundreds of properties get wiped out so they can build some high-rise buildings to replace the properties that were off limits to purchase in the past.

Because he's implying LA might get hit

I'd go straight west. As of right now, hit about Mobile and you should be safe.
Ask rds about how far the west potential is closer to you leaving. I'll try to answer to, but I'm not a pro and wouldn't suggest you take my advice at face value.

8 hours drive and MS could still get it bad (though unlikely). Doesn't seem like a great deal IMO. The problem is we still have no idea what Irma will do.

I would be leaving now. I would expect local Government to start moving people soon.
No joke. If this thing moves the way they're thinking and you live in Miami, you've got to make it damn near to Georgia to avoid getting hammered... as do all the other people who live higher up in America's wang. It's going to be a madhouse if they've got to evacuate the entire Eastern half of the Florida peninsula.

In his defense he did project that Katrina was going to hit South Carolina only to be ridiculed for missing the projection when it hit New Orleans.
