Bob is just trying to make people in the Gulf aware. I have no problem with that. Am I wrong in thinking this thing actually still has a possibility to go out to sea?

Bob is still gunshy after fricking up Katrina prediction
Katrina models were splayed out a lot.
Pretty damn tight models on this one that have held pretty steady over the last 24-36 hours

In his defense, smaller weaker storms have been sensationalized so much since Katrina (thanks media) that fear mongering might be the way to go with this storm.
I just got off the phone with a coworker who lives on the FLA coast and he had no idea he was in this much danger.

I believe I was wrong about it being surface winds, I think those are flight level winds.
makes more sense
FWIW... the AF309's dropsonde in the NE eyewall registered a 170 kt (~195 mph) wind at 1,945 m (~6,380 ft)

Bob is an alarmist....he gets to caught up in the moment and now that he's retired he's trying to stay relevant.

Hurricane Hunters have now found surface winds of 185mph (160kts).

I haven't seen that in any of the dropsondes

To where? That's the problem. We will just have to wait and see. Things are still normal here. People going about their business and working.
Much of jax will not need to be evacuated anyways.

I'm a newbie at this but can someone explain to me what lower pressure means in terms of hurricanes?
For example, why is a 900mb worse than a 930mb system?
