Usually the recon missions are very methodical.

This one seems a bit haphazard

They are also doing a combo of research and calibration on some new monitoring instrumentation. That is probably the reason for the circles.

got one @ Home Depot this morning @ 6AM that will power the entire house.

Good. Get enough gas and snacks.
I bought one of these just in case after I couldn't find a large gas can for Lili years ago LINK Filled the cars up an rode it out in So. Lafayette. No power for 5 days but the little window unit was the best thing I ever bought at HD! Lili ain't nothing like this thing coming at you.

Eyewall Replacement Cycle.

Basically an outer band wraps up strong, cuts off inflow from the inner wall and collapses it. Leads to short term weakening, but an expanded wind field and larger eye once completed.

By the way, some of the models now have Florence making it to Cat. 5 strength.

I'm guessing eyewall replacement cycle. That usually means it's hitting the fan.

Eye wall replacement cycle, basically the eye wall collapses, weakening the storm temporarily. However once the eyewall forms again it is bigger, growing the storm and windfield to a much larger area.

Pros: weakens storm temporarily
Cons: makes the storm much bigger once its done.

Fwiw, an EWRC right now would be bad news, as it would most likely be done well before approaching land, meaning an equally powerful yet bigger storm.

Eyewall replacement cycle, so possibly strengthening...

To the incredible citizens of North Carolina, South Carolina and the entire East Coast - the storm looks very bad! Please take all necessary precautions. We have already began mobilizing our assets to respond accordingly, and we are here for you!

My buddy's folks live in a condo on Bald Head Island. Safe to say that condo won't survive this storm. Damn

have some crews working in St. Pauls, North Carolina which is 80 miles northwest of Wilmington and in between Lumberton and Fayetteville

They will experience sustained Hurricane force winds and lots of flooding, if you can- move equipment/crew out of there.

The current track has it still a Hurricane over that exact area Friday morning

GFS has Florence sitting over NC/SC/Ga all of next week, only to re-emerge into the Atlantic next Thursday and start developing again. WTF Flo. Go home you're drunk.

*Disclaimer: I don't do this for a living. Follow the advice of your local NWS office.

Alright, as of today, if I lived in the red area, I would leave town by tomorrow. If I lived in the yellow area, I would pay very close attention over the next day or so and make a final decision at that point. If you're in a situation with little kids or something, I'd prepare to leave, but otherwise I'd be making preparations to stay.

between drop 4 (dropsonde #1 in Florence's eye) & drop 26 (latest dropsonde in the eye)...

Florence has moved 0.3 N, 0.7 W in ~ 3 hrs 45 min

ETA: last dropsonde in the eye had 941 mb at the surface

that's down 1 mb since the previous drop in the eye and 6 mb since the 1st drop in the eye

I don’t disagree with you but I lived through Andrew in S FL so I’ve been through a “real” hurricane. I also know many people who haven’t and therefore freak out over Cat 1s and 2s. Better safe than sorry though.

I was also talking about family and others saying just get out, not elected officials etc.
