Governor just issued a mandatory evacuation for Hilton Head Island starting tomorrow.
I think that is ridiculous.

. Any updates on what Cat at landfall?
It's probably going to be between a strong 3 and a 5. It's more likely it's closer to a 3 than a 5, but it's unlikely to be any weaker than a 3.

I was looking for one. I got an essentials only one at Tractor supply then got one @ Home Depot this morning @ 6AM that will power the entire house.

Just got a notification on my phone that he ordered an evacuation of the entire SC coast.

6ft plus storm surge isn't nothing.
I do agree some should just stay ( south of Charleston)

Can't imagine that helps NC (or the northern half of the SC coast)

That’s how we are feeling. Guess I’ll wait for a few more updates to decide

Cat 3 I can deal with and stay and protect my home. I am 30 miles inland. I of course, don't want to drive to Georgia.
I was hexed because my ins guy said I'll talk to you soon and I said I hope not.

You're going to get a detailed update from the NHC at 5PM local time. You should be able to decide from there.
However, I'd feel pretty comfortable if I was you.

I got so downvoted on Reddit for saying this that my comment was hidden.

Yeah it's irresponsible IMO. People from NC should head south, yet you're clogging up the roads leaving sunny Hilton Head?

In reality, this storm will change the lives of many people for the worse, no doubt, but there are plenty of people in SC that should have no reasonable expectation to be in harm's way.

Not only is there a mandatory evac of the entire coast, they shut the schools down from Cola to the coast starting tomorrow.
I'm gonna be the only dude in the office the rest of the week since I don't have kids.

Fear mongering with hurricanes has become ridiculous.
“Just get out! Just leave!” is a horrible plan 98% of the time for 98% of people (there are exceptions). No it’s worse than a horrible plan because it’s not even a fricking plan. It just creates more chaos and panic.

To play devil's advocate to my own comment - when authorities draw a hard and fast line on what communities need to evacuate, people start saying "if 3 miles down the road doesn't need to evacuate, then I'm not evacuating either" until you have people damn near in the direct path that think they can stay. You'd like to think they could be more nuanced with the mandatory evacuations, but I do understand it to an extent.
