re: Hurricane Andrew 1992 - 34 years ago Monday morning (FL) through Wednesday morning (LA)

My freshman year at LSU. Went to class 3 days. Then said at home for a week with no power.

My family went stay at the school my grandparents were janitors at. The next day was my 13th birthday. We didn't have any damage but the next morning when we left, my dad was listening to the radio on the drive back home. No one told me Happy Birthday. The DJ said "It's August 25th..." and my parents looked at each other and apologized profusely.

Was a Sophomore at LSU living in Chateau Kirby at the time. Partied our arse off and watched it blow the roof off the IHOP. It was blowing pea gravel off the roof of Kirby like .22 rounds popping car windows left and right. Luckily my mustang was behind a big arse truck and was spared. Lunch ladies couldn’t make it in so our drunk asses got drafted to go make breakfast in Pentagon cafeteria. That was a shite show. One of the few places in BR with power. Left a few days later for NOLA with my roommate to see Metallica.

Senior in high school for me. Yes, the night part was bad. All we could hear were pine tree limbs snapping sounded like gun shots. Looked like a war zone when the sun came up. No electricity for two weeks. Boiling water in a pot to take baths. My dad bought a generator but it was only to keep the freezers and fridge running and a couple fans at night.

Went right over the house, I was in first grade.

I remember being in my bed and asking my mom when it was going to stop.

Thankfully, my grandfather built the house. All heart of pine 2x4, plywood sheeting, and internal walls had shiplap before the drywall was installed. 10p nails everywhere.

We lost a handful of shingles, neighbors lost their entire roof, next neighbor lost the entire front half of their home. It took down every single non oak tree.

No power for three weeks

I remember it well. We had three small children and lived in a mobile home at the time. We evacuated to my parents' house and rode out the hurricane in the living room because Dad had reinforced that area of the house when he had it built. It was probably the scariest hurricane I experienced because my children were small. Neither of our homes had damage, but the electricity was off for about a week.

The neighborhood i was referencing was basically right next door, deerwood.

I’ve heard some absolutely bonkers stories about the tornado that spawned from Andrew that hit LaPlace, LA.

Storm was bad but the aftermath was horrible, no power and no water for two weeks.

I was a freshman at Central and remember leaving school early. We lived in an old house and our power was out for two weeks because the house was on its own line and the power company didnt connect it when they got the power back up.
