Do your homework kids and learn to love coal again. It is flat out retarded to have long term discussions about energy policy without it.
If we could ever harness the power of the Mississippi River, we could have an endless supply of cheap power in South Louisiana. I wonder if environmentalists and big fossil fuel work hand in hand trying to stop that from ever happening.

The issue with the data centers isn’t the power they need. It’s the water for cooling.
We already have aquifer drawdown issues all over the state. LED isn’t thinking about the water requirements for these mega project/mega parcel sites when they pursue deals. I hope this gets built but we have to be smarter about the water. This state has little to no ground or surface water regulatory framework from a commodity standpoint (not talking about DEQ and water quality).

While I like the idea of a new market for natural gas usage, I’m not sure I like it going towards huge energy draining AI facilities.
You should like it. Company comes in and tells Entergy we’ll partner with you to produce electricity for a high demand center. Entergy builds plant. Company builds facility. Jobs are created on both ends, Entergy gets automatic revenue, LA gets a solid tax center, and the state has another modern power source to provide power to the grid.
I really hope this leads to Small Modular Reactor licenses for the state. If this becomes real, you’re talking about an energy renaissance. Yeah, it’s that big of a deal. You want cheap electric bills? Then hope for a nuclear revolution.

I've been telling yall Bee Bayou was going to be the next Silicon Valley.

Dude , Trump had nothing to do with this.
We have known about this for several months.

That's a lot of money to power up servers to host cat videos.

The state has owned that property since the 2000's. They've been marketing (along with the Old Guide and GM plants) that site to automotive companies since the Blanco administration.

With Trump’s appointment of Chris Wright to Secretary of Energy this has become considerably more likely to happen than before. He may be the most qualified person in the position since he actually comes from the energy sector. Previous appointments were always some BS professional politician that didn’t know the landscape. Hopefully this shakes up shite and we have a true nuclear renaissance.

Too bad it’s not coal
Use what's cheapest locally. Coal would be a dumb thing to use when surrounded by natural gas production.
They're going to fast track nuclear energy to build more of these AI/data centers.

Landry issued an executive order a couple of weeks ago about reducing environmental permitting time, and specifically included this order.

Don't care. Don't care about AI and don't care about natural gas fired electricity generation plants. Go for it.

You think a 5 billion dollar plant idea was hatched, developed, approved, and announced inside the past 2.5 weeks???
This takes years doode....
What a buckshot

very few people in that part of the State will be qualified to do more than mop the floors there and by the time the local Community Colleges catch up to the curriculum needed, the people wont be able to afford to live/work there anymore
It’s only 500 people and Monroe is 30 minutes away. Lots of people from Centurylink lost their jobs. There’s three 4-year universities, 1 community college and 3 vo-techs within 60 miles of this place.
I think it will be ok.

The reason to care about AI is because it's one of the biggest threats to the natural freshwater cycle.
They're pulling water out of the natural aquifers at alarming rates to keep these things cool. That water then hits the atmosphere and ultimately ends up in the ocean, largely unusable without additional intervention.

I think you are giving Funroe too much credit as most of us left there a LONG time ago because again, the area cannot fathom the money that IT people want

They will move people in from other areas of the country if they can't fill the jobs with local talent.
Also, I think you are probably confused on what types of jobs there are in a data center.
It's mostly facility maintenance, electricians, engineering, etc. They are not hiring data scientists or computer programmers. That type of position is located elsewhere.
There are actually lots of electrical technicians, maintenance personnel, etc., in that part of the country.
This is a non-issue.

um no..

I'm kind of familiar with them..

yeah, but they're not qualified to the point that this data center needs..

I literally can't tell if you're trolling and agree or are disagreeing because its me..
I've done my fair share of data center walk throughs and honestly i'm more surprised that they consider the land up there stable enough to house it all

What is this supposed to mean? I have no idea who you are.
The post I originally responded to, not sure if it was you or someone else, said that they would have hard time find people to fill jobs beyond people to mop the floor, which is ludicrous.
I was just pointing out the absurdity of that statement. There are plenty of people in that area to fill those jobs, and plenty of education resources to train people.

You know nothing about natural gas.
If you cannot store it (something we are only starting on developing), you MUST BURN IT.
It is better to burn it for power than as a by-product of recovering oil.
