re: How would the OT respond to this email from a college student? UPDATE: pg. 6

I’ve gotten versions of that email for years. I usually respond with an overly obtuse answer, advising about online resources, where to find the syllabus, etc: “Dear Mr. Lastname, Thank you so much for reaching out to me... blah, blah, blah.”
Why all that effort, you ask? It’s those stupid 2 sentence emails (and my replies) that I attach as exhibits in my response to the inevitable grade appeal. And that appeal is virtually inevitable.

Don't worry. I will. I'm a total pushover. But my Rate My Professor ratings are stellar
Kwrestion.. do anyone read student teacher evaluations? Never understood how bad prof can keep their jobs for 10+ years. I understand weeder classes, and some prof are just tough. But I'm talking about those that are ordinary classes Bio, Cal, Eng.. terrible at explaining, strict just because they have some authority, class have no structure etc

Socially promote the student so it’s someone else’s problem.

He won't respond, and if he does he won't show up to office hours. (Guessing this is a he). Problem solved on your end. Not so much on his end but whatever.

Yes, student evals matter. They are the #1 way university departments evaluate teaching performance. However, teaching is secondary to research at big universities (like LSU, etc).
A productive researcher who is bad a teaching will get promoted over a good teacher who doesn't produce much research. That's why you have had so many bad teachers who "kept their jobs." They are not only keeping their jobs, they are being rewarded for slacking off on teaching (more time for research).

Bump.. what was the outcome?
I did exactly what I said I'd do.
I replied with a quick overview of the prompt and mentioned that we did numerous activities in class to help with the completion of the essay. I then said that it was really close to the deadline to be asking for an explanation of the assignment and that I would stay after class that night to answer any specific questions about the prompt. I didn't discuss his informal and unprofessional email and I did use formal language in my response.
To my surprise, he showed up to class. When class was over, I asked him if he wanted to talk about the assignment. He said, "I think I got it now!" kinda jovially.
He turned in his essay two hours late (2am vs. the midnight deadline). I just gave it a quick skim and it looks like shite.
So I assume the outcome will be a rather lackluster grade.

Alright, I need to know the backstory and results of that blackmail letter.

Why do you have things due outside of class times? Outside of say online quizzes, all of my papers and what not were due at the start of class at a certain date. If it wasn't turned in on time it was either not accepted at all or the penalty was known (i.e. automatic letter grade drop or something).

"(Student),
If this is how concise you are in asking questions, it's no wonder you have no clue on the subject matter.
Put down the bong and allow enough time for the haze to clear your mind then try emailing me again. Some aspects of your email you may (read: should) work on are:
1. Being clear and exacting in language
2. Being somewhere in the ballpark of formality (this includes a proper salutation and closing)
3. Construct sentences and use English in at least some half-decent pantomime of proper
If you are unsure how to accomplish these things, please let me know so I can urge your guidance counselor to enroll you in the most remedial English classes this school offers.

Well, learn it. Ask someone in the class or someone who has taken the class to help you with it.

We have a full time pipefittimg department at the plant and they make the same as everyone else basically and do Jack shite.
40 hour weeks and make exactly same as operators and more than the planners in our department.
Parents should really stop pushing college to every child and start looking at trades.
The right trades for a person with drive can easily set them up for a great life and career with benefits

To be fair, he used a double negative, indicating that he did, in fact, understand some of this stuff. This is supported by that fact that he turned something in without further instruction.
