What else are you tired of with regard to your kids. The effort is easy. The result is magical for kids. Maybe skip magical and just go with total reality. Your choice.

I’m happy to have had magical in my life while it lasted. There’s plenty of reality.

It's quite terrifying to think that you have kids.

Just tell them a female coworker reported him for unwanted advances and now he has to attend sensitivity training and can’t make it this year.

I guess I’m built different. My son is nine and I know I have a very small window of the “magic“ of believing in this kind of stuff, can’t believe how fast it’s gone.

He absolutely loves it. He jumps out of bed every morning to see what he did that day. we even took it out mid year with a note saying half way to Christmas, knowing we only have another year or two of it.

I don’t see a reason to complain about doing something that makes your child happy, especially given the innocence of it. Hell, everything I do in my life is for him and his happiness, I threw the me first away when he was born.

And not one picture has been posted to Facebook so it’s not about attention, it’s about him. Downvote away.

Never started it, it's a stupid arse look at me trend.

My boys aren't old enough yet, so I haven't done it. I get it's a trend, but what exactly is look at me about it? The only time I ever hear or see anything about it is when I go to someone's house who is doing it. Is that the look at me part, inviting people over to see it?

I assume they are implying that a lot of people post their elf ideas on facebook and other social media platforms.

I always do the simple stuff. Just move him around to hide and only occasionally do elaborate scenarios.

My son is eight and still gets a big kick out of it. It's fun for him -- so that's all the motivation I need.

I didn't think anyone would believe but my daughter was the same age. The best approach we found was to tell her that kids that don't believe have to rely on their parents. But, if you believe...he is real!

Call a family meeting.

Have your wife and kids line up.

Announce, "All whose childhood Elf on the Shelf is still alive, take one step forward."

At this point your wife should start crying.

As your children begin to step forward you say, "Be cool kids, Mom and I have something to tell you about your Elf on the Shelf."

Tell them that he fell off his last perch and broke his neck (or something like that - make it as peaceful or gory as you deem fit).

Good luck.

Edited for not closing quotation marks. There are probably other punctuation/spelling errors.
