Start preparing them for how life really is. Just tell him that this shite isn't real and if they want gifts this year to get out in the yard and rake the leaves

How about not being a self-centered father and play along? You move the thing once per night. It's not like asking your fat arse to run a half mile.

He became a whistleblower and was hidden away by Congressional Democrats.

Empty all the steel shot out of a .20 gauge shell and walk in the room, Put the end of the barrel next to the elf’s head and pull the trigger when they’re all watching you. Tell them that the elf hasn’t been being a good listener or making happy plates at breakfast lunch and dinner and that when you told Santa he said to eliminate him.
This is awesome and terrifying at the same time.

Your wife will get rid of it after this

I had never heard of this tradition until social media
Guess it's not something my family ever did
BTW I think it's stupid

I had my oldest son fooled until 8th grade. He was skeptical but hadn't ruled out the possibility of Santa being real. We really worked on it when he was younger, so it made a lasting impression until one of his teachers told the whole class lol

Yep.
Like I said, he was skeptical. But, he had seen enough throughout his life that made him at least hold out the possibility.
My middle son figured it out quick, and he is helping me with my youngest.

Ex daughter in law told our grandkids at about two years old there was no Santa, Easter bunny, Tooth Fairy.
What a lazy bitch.

Talk them into touching the elf, then switch it out with a model skeleton after they go to sleep. Don’t forget to put the hat on the skull.

Why the rush to end the childhood fantasies??
My daughter is 17 and I still do the Elf on the Shelf. Granted, I have never staged the dramatic tableau’s w marshmallow poop and all that jazz; every so often she’ll just peak out from a nook or cranny.
PS our elf isn’t the made for TV purchased elf, she’s actually an old ornament from 1970’s TG&Y.

Get a basket. Put the elf in there with a blanket and a few ornaments and a note to carry me around the house where ever you go this Christmas.
You’ll never have to move the elf again.
