OP cares and wants to show off his blacked out 2023 Ford F150 to his frat bros even if it means the pickup gets stolen or one of his brahs pukes in the vehicle. He's been given plenty of solid advice but he's already made his decision.
I’m doing the garage

Maps on your phone not work? It's barely three blocks removed, and those looking to break in can usually walk right into the garage.
Why would I need a map on my phone when I work in the CBD?
There’s not been any issues in parking garages on Poydras that I’m aware of. Are you aware of break-ins in the garages I referenced?
Some of you would rather fear monger than provide useful information.

Have an "emergency" come up and avoid NoLa.
Most likely scenario is your catalytic converter will be stolen. Worst part of that is waiting an extra 2 days for NOPD to not show up to take a report. Your contribution to the local economy will be appreciated.

There's what, a million cars in New Orleans area on a given day? A handful get stolen/carjacked?
I go to NO often and never had an issue. Can it happen? Sure. Is it likely to happen? No.
Meh, your post is the opposite end of ridiculous as OP's, but still ridiculous. I've seen cars in my office building's parking lot on the edge of the FQ smashed in on a weekday, but I've also left my car there overnight and it's perfectly fine. Considering the way he described his truck it is a huge target for break-in's. The location the Airbnb sounds like it is in increases the risk of it being targeted.

Put a Gun Rack on the back window and a Blue Lives Matter or NRA sticker on the back of your truck and there is a 99.99% +/- chance that your truck won't be broken into.

A blacked out pickup truck has a bullseye on its windows
That’s not to say it’s 100% but it’s high risk. If they cruise that neighborhood, it’ll be a target.
I’d halfway lean towards emptying it out and not locking the door if not tracking down a particularly safe spot (like by the firehouse over there, for instance)

You park that vehicle as described overnight on Esplanade "near downtown" or within a block or two of it, I'd say it's easily >50% a window is getting busted out of it.
That's not "fearmongering." That's simple reality of the present moment.

Park at Harrahs and walk out of the Canal St entrance of the Casino to the Canal St streetcar stop. Hop on the street car and take it to the French Market stop. Walk out and you are on Esplanade.
I have parked in the Harrahs parking garage hundreds of times and never had a single issue. They have security and cameras. Gamble 30 mins a day and your parking is free. Have a great time.

My buddy took his truck down to NOLA for supper lately....both times they broke in!
Posted on 5/16/23 at 2:45 pm to CornbreadFed
I would also suggest that if you do take your truck, put a simple sign on the window that says something like "smile, you are on camera."

You've only received a handful of replies from New Orleans residents. There is a risk but it is overblown. Odds are you'll be fine for a couple nights. If you want to be careful just take out valuables and leave it unlocked. If you can park in a garage, even better. But I would not sweat it or drastically change your plans.

Have You not been paying attention. Your shite will get broken into anywhere in NOLA.

Park your car uptown and take the street car as close as your can to your Airbnb
