If I am happy where I am, with my job and financial outlook - it would need to be a massive increase for me to move like that unless it is like a dream job or I am going to enjoy the work more.

Doing something you don't like for more money is a terrible decision for most people unless you are really, really driven by money or need the money to be secure financially.

I took my current salary at the time, plus paid relocation, to move to Atlanta. I was working 80+ hours per week and I don't think my employer would have survived a big storm. A raise was pretty far down the list of things I was looking for, and the big money did come pretty quickly once I was firmly ensconced in the Atlanta job market.

I'd move for a 10-15% raise probably. Don't have deep roots anywhere makes it easier.

Hospital administrator. He's also an MD. Now works with me at The labor dept. top pay here is probably 110k, starts at 60k during training.

Zero.

My biggest hope right now is to be allowed permanent WFH status. If I can do that and move out of LA I'd pass on a pay raise this year.

If you’re moving out of Louisiana, I’d even take a pay decrease to move to anywhere in Texas

Moved to Houston from BR mid 90's, best decision ever. Easy enough to fly home to visit family, so that's not an issue. Great place to live.

I work remotely, if I'm going to be forced to come into an office every day, I would need more than 150k (if I was making 100k). Would probably need 100k combined household increase in salary. Even then, I would be hesitant.

ETA: this is not taking into account a cost of living increase. It would have to be the equivalent of us making 100k more for our current standard of living for me to consider it. We chose to live where we live for a reason, we could've moved to many other cities, if we wanted to.

ETA2: at the same time though, I would move to New Orleans for a simple standard of living increase of 20-30% of our current income.

If I'm leaving family and friends, it would have to be life changing money and a job I really enjoy.

At least double, but it would also depend a lot on the city. Several would be non-starters for us - Dallas, New Orleans, Houston, Miami, St Louis, Cincy, and a few others.

By relocate I mean to a major city, like Houston or Dallas. But you are leaving all of your friends and family behind and don’t know anyone in the new location.

Say you are making 100k now. What would it take for you to make the move.
Same line of work, only reason for the move would be money.

I am in the process of this currently. I just moved nearly 1,000 miles from family and friends for a new job (lost the old one because of the vid). I got nearly a $20k base salary increase for the move.

ETA: I am single so makes moving easy. If I hate it after a year or so, I can always move back.

I think I'd need 50% more and I'm not sure I'd do it. Family is firmly entrenched and happy, we have wonderful friends, good house. Also, I'm comfortable enough that the additional $ might not be worth the sacrifice of what we have.

Thats an insane pay cut. I'm assuming he's a pretty wealthy guy that can afford to move to a place he loves

I loved living in New Orleans and it was tough to leave. That being said I jumped at the 50% increase I received to relocate to Fort Worth.

Congrats on the sex, though.

I left suburban Atlanta 12 years ago to live on 20 acres in rural NW Georgia. There isn't any amount of money you could pay me to move back to an urban/suburban area.

Way more than any business would be able to offer.
