How much of a salary bump is needed for you to relocate?

By relocate I mean to a major city, like Houston or Dallas. But you are leaving all of your friends and family behind and don’t know anyone in the new location.

Say you are making 100k now. What would it take for you to make the move.
Same line of work, only reason for the move would be money.

This is a hypothetical. I’m not in this situation now. Very happy with my current job.

If you’re moving out of Louisiana, I’d even take a pay decrease to move to anywhere in Texas

Having moved from Oxford to Dallas this year, I'd say I would need at least $25k more per year just for living expenses, and another $15-25k for lifestyle change.

Do you love your current job? Is the new job your dream job or are you just doing it for more money? Are you moving to a location with higher or lower housings costs, etc.

It is impossible to answer this question with the information given.

My bad, I didn’t clarify. Just a hypothetical. I’m very happy with my current job.

I'm pretty active socially. It would need to be pretty substantial in order to drop what I'm working on now with friends and family.

Houston or Dallas are two of the largest cities in the US so it would depend if you meant other cities like Houston and Dallas are LA, NY, Philly, San Diego, San Antonio, Phoenix, etc OR did you just mean "medium to large" cities still close to Louisiana like Memphis, Orlando, Atlanta, etc.

For me to go to NY, Philly, LA or San Diego I would probably want at least double. If it's still in the south less...probably 150%

Anything in Texas is off the table. F the entire state.

I'd move to a location that's desirable to me for the same pay or a little less. It wouldn't be to a major city though.

I pay 15k for private school and aftercare right now so I'd have more take home pay making 10k less per year

Depends on the cost of living comparison. For a city with 10% higher COL, I'd probably ask for 25%. For a city of equal COL, probably 15%-20%.

Depends on the city. Houston or Dallas, probably a 50% raise as it is no where near our family or things we enjoy doing. If it was a city we both enjoyed, it would take a nominal amount to get us to move.

This!!! I moved back here from DFW for my hub to spend the last few remaining years with his 86-year-old parents. He's gone through two layoffs since returning, and if we were in DFW still jobs would be abundant.

Wife and I are strongly considering leaving Louisiana to North Carolina and it has zero to do with pay.

The area has little offer anymore and just tired of the oppressive heat.

Depends what city. For example, I'd require a much bigger bump to go to Houston than Nashville, simply because I don't like Houston.
