Here a LINK to Nerd wallet on what you would need to keep your current standard of living .. now just add what your friends/family are worth to you.

Depends on many factors like where I'm moving from and to, the job, etc. There are lots of good "cost of living comparison calculators" online to do a side by side but it still doesn't tell you what it would be like moving from say Hammond to Houston until you go there and see what your target income would buy, where and what the commute would be like, etc.
When I moved from Huntsville to Colorado many years ago I very much wanted to go and was actively seeking jobs in the area. I took a lateral in pay plus moving expenses just to get to Colorado. Cost of living at that time, not any more, was roughly equivalent.
A couple years ago I got recruited for a VP level job that sounded like a lot of fun but was someplace I didn't really want to live. I would have moved for the job, but it would taken triple my then salary but no less. I've also been recruited to relocate to DC, SanFran, Boston and NYC and my answer is simply "no thanks".

It really depends. First, you have to understand the cost of living adjustment. To move from New Orleans to Houston, you probably need $25k just to break even if you plan on living in the actual city.
Then the rest depends on what you think you are worth in the new role, and how much "home" means to you.
I left New Orleans for grad school, and intended to stay in Georgia (my first role). I did not need a "cost of living adjustment" but they paid for my relocation, and I think I got a 25% increase.

Wrong, it's less expensive to live in Houston

We relocated to New Jersey because the wife got an offer that more than doubled what she was making.

Hell, I’d take a pay cut to get out of New Orleans and LA for that matter. Just counting down till the little one graduates from Mount Carmel.

f you’re moving out of Louisiana, I’d even take a pay decrease to move to anywhere in Texas
You’d have to quadruple my salary to live in Houston. Places near Dallas I’d consider but not much of Texas I’d want to live in.

Relocate out of Louisiana? I’d take a pay cut.

To leave Louisiana I would not care it it was a pay increase or decrease

You couldnt pay me enough to move to br or nola.
Maybe double if we talk about the woodlands or other texas suburb or rural area.

I left New Orleans for money and career once, and couldn't wait to get back. Now, if I ever leave New Orleans it will be because I tire of the weather or want to be near my grown kids, not because of money. There is no amount of money worth unhappiness.

Depends on where I’m going.
Houston, K.C., D.C., Baltimore, OKC, or Dallas? They’d have to double my take home before I even consider it.
Memphis, Jacksonville, Boise, Tacoma, Tampa, Birmingham, Norfolk, Miami, San Antonio? Probably about 25-30% bump would tempt me.
Austin, Nashville, Denver, Honolulu, San Diego, Phoenix, I’d probably want a slight bump in pay to make up the cost of living difference, but would be tempted even if the pay was the same.
Seattle, Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco? I would need a cost of living bump to be able to afford the move, but would be 100% down.
New York, Chicago, Boston, Columbus, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, Pittsburg, Albuquerque, Juneau, Reno I’m sure there’s a number that would convince me, but it would have to be real f$&king big.
Omaha, Detroit, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Philly, Sacramento, Fresno, San Bernardino, Las Vegas, Anchorage, Fargo, Des Moines, Louisville, Bakersfield, Bangor, Cincinnati, Sioux City, Casper, Billings, etc. I don’t know if a number exists to get me to move there.

Sending some encouragement to u and ur husband. We just did the same thing not too long ago. It’s tough moving back here for friend / family reasons after living in a bigger city with much more opportunity, but such is life and some things are more important than others.
Can always move back there later or elsewhere if u desire. Best of luck to y’all.
As a response to the OP, pretty much anywhere has more opportunity than this joke of a state, so it prob wouldn’t take much for most ppl. That being said, it’s our home, and sometimes home is home.

I left Louisiana for a 25% bump in base pay, but overall compensation (stocks and bonus) equaled a 90% pay increase. Meaning my overall comp is almost double what it was 3 years ago in BTR.

20% at minimum, but it really depends on state/city.
