but that target would still set the company’s quarterly earnings at 25 percent less than they were last year
Musk is running X on 80% fewer people than when he bought it. He also reduced the office space they were renting and is operating on fewer servers. There is a story of him and his brother shutting a server down on Christmas Eve by physically doing the work themselves.
quote:
The facility was costing X more than $100 million a year. Musk wanted to save that money by moving the servers to one of X’s other facilities, in Portland, Oregon. Another manager at the meeting said that couldn’t be done right away. “We can’t get out safely before six to nine months,” she said in a matter-of-fact tone. “Sacramento still needs to be around to serve traffic.”
quote:
The next day — Christmas Eve — Musk called in reinforcements. Ross Nordeen, who worked with his friend James at Tesla, drove from San Francisco. He stopped at the Apple Store in Union Square and spent $2,000 to buy out the entire stock of AirTags so the servers could be tracked on their journey, and then stopped at Home Depot, where he spent $2,500 on wrenches, bolt-cutters, headlamps, and the tools needed to unscrew the seismic bolts.

He has cut overhead significantly so it doesn't need to earn as much as it used to. The MSM wants him to fail, though, so they don't report how much overhead he has reduced.

You assume that I don't like it due to free speech on X? I'm conservative, you dick.

I don't think he bought it/keeps it for financial motives. More of a principal thing. And enjoyment.
Agreed.

quote:So there is no public record......
Since Mr. Musk took the company private, it no longer publicly reports its earnings,
quote:So numbers pulled out of their arse. Looks like Emarketer just deposited a hefty check for the "analysis"
but Emarketer, a market research agency, estimated that last year, X lost about 52 percent of its U.S. advertising revenue, which dropped to $1.13 billion. The firm predicted X’s losses would slow to a 2.5 percent decrease this year.

It’s a private company…..
Cost is already sunk. Why wouldn’t he hang on at this point?

I love X.
I loved Twitter before he bought it and he has only made it better.
The community notes feature is wonderful and when I see something that is interesting - I bookmark it and look back at it in a week and it has notes on it to correct the info.
I never seen pornography or even girls in swimwear as it is not what I engage in.
The fact that anyone (in the media) attacks X shows the true success of it. If it was a random app with no engagement - no one would talk about it.

Its not.
For all hia good talk about getting rid of bots, its way worse than 2 years ago. Everyday, Im getting two follow requests from those fake accounts with hot girls.
Celebrate the change in moderation, but Musk hasnt made the platform better overall.

He still has some work to do on the algorithm. I keep getting leftists pushed on me a lot.
I suspect, while Elon has made steps to improve the profitability of Twitter, the work of GARM is stifling it.

Be skeptical of anything NYT pushes. They always have an agenda.

They may have dropped a lot fo revenue but they also dropped an ungodly amount of people cost. Cutting about 6,000 people worth of costs with minimal impact to the platform probably made them at least close to break even.

People keep saying this, I used to be inundated with leftist political crap that was obviously bots, and now I'm getting a pretty even showing.

Are we all missing that his long term vision isn’t just 140 characters but a one stop super app for all things life and the availability of twitter was just a fast track to building that out?

Yaccarino said they were close to break even last August.

How much longer do you think Elon Musk hangs on to X/Twitter?
I think he holds onto it long term and eventually pivots it into a Meta type, "everything" kind of company. I think it will have some kind of integration with Starlink, will eventually launch telecommunications, and will become even more of a de-facto town square. With Tesla Autopilot and full self-driving AI innovation, I think that too will be woven in as well as continued AI development in general.
Thing is, he's a free speech absolutist who if we didn't have right now, we'd be completely in the dark. The legacy media has an agenda and is so slanted it really cannot be trusted. His people have done pretty good on fact-checking any bullshite (even when it's right wing).
Do you remember how much hell you'd get on Facebook and old Twitter for sharing the Ivermectin thing? We'd literally be under the same mandates if he hadn't taken it over.
I think if he's ever removed from the equation, either by his own choice or otherwise, we will take a massive step back as far as being a free people. The world desperately needs and must do everything to protect Elon Musk.
