I have a Snackbar family that lives in my neighborhood. A dad, his wife, his mom. And 2 small kids. The mom and dad drive a Lexus and a Cadillac SUV. Their yard is always pristine. The grandma walks the kids in a stroller every morning, the wife is an absolute fricking smoke show! Curvey in all the right places. Thats all I got. I offered the husband a beer during trick or treat but he declined.

There’s always going to be some waste and fraud but the greater good is that people aren’t going hungry. Be grateful you aren’t on it. If it’s the budget you’re worried about there are far bigger fish to fry than trying to make the lives of the least fortunate even more miserable.

No, frick that.
The genuinely unfortunate deserve help…no question about that. But watching SNAP/EBT get openly abused by people who keep landing in the same situation because of their own repeated choices is where taxpayer patience starts to wear thin.
At a certain point, it stops feeling like “compassion” and starts feeling like the people footing the bill are just expected to shrug and accept it.
Taxpayers aren’t supposed to be grateful while fraud and misuse get brushed off as some unavoidable cost of doing business. “Some waste is inevitable” isn’t a serious answer when it’s our money being drained and the system barely seems interested in drawing a line.

About as long as we can support VA disability abuse.

We need to start and go back to making it shameful being an able bodied adult and unable to buy your own food...

Fresh food only period no exceptions. Don’t like it, don’t eat. This country can feed everyone within the borders twice over. frick the big food companies and frick the big retailers. If it’s not an unprocessed pantry staple of fresh meat/vegetables it should not be purchased with taxpayer funds

Would love to see it.
But as an experiment, I’d like to take it even further for a few years. Strip away every modern entitlement and discretionary program. Fund only the core responsibilities of government: protect the country, preserve order, enforce the law, and maintain the basic systems civilization cannot function without.
Then let’s see who cries first. See who leaves. See who suddenly is able to discover the concept of personal responsibility once the taxpayer-funded safety net disappears.

Rural grocery stores would cease to exist if it weren’t for food stamps.

If you're greatly concerned about wasted taxpayer $$ please never learn about something called the war on terror
It would take about 70 years or more of paying out SNAP benefits to equal the spending on our middle east conflicts since the war on terror started

I’ve witnessed EBT abuse first hand. My family and I were at WalMart buying groceries. We were in the check out line behind a group of people that were on food stamps. Every snack, soda, and junk food you could imagine. They also had a big bag of dog food. The clerk told the lady, mam ebt will not pay for dog food. The lady turns to her daughter and says run grab a bunch of steaks for the dog.
She comes back with a basket full of ribeyes and sirloins that my tax money paid for to feed there dog.
You wanna talk about getting the red arse!!!!

So my family is big time in this. Everyone one of my sisters and their husbands are in on this "EBT" Scheme.
They all Married, Had Kids, then Divorced all 3x of them.
The Father still lives in the same houses, even though they are not suppose too. All so the "Single Mom" Can get on EBT/Snap and WIck.
It makes me disgusted. Even though, We were all raised this way.
They eat better than my family. I find it digusting.

Oh ok. Well I’m convinced. Let’s open the borders and put the whole world on SNAP then. Great idea.

Because of public shame, current EBT snap benefits are distributed via a regular looking credit cards so no I couldn’t tell what they were paying with. I am honest about that.
That said, you have to be a big fricking idiot to not identify easy blatant sponging off the system. If you were there witnessing it, it’s pretty obvious.
I have 2 really nice HEBs 5 or 10 miles away from me and the local one that is a mile away that we colloquially call, "Ghetto HEB." We go to Ghetto HEB for our quick purchases.
You can call it racist or whatever, but I call it pattern recognition that the a majority of people in front of me in line regularly split their order between EBT items and non EBT items in two separate purchases with two separate swipes.

And it you reported it, nothing would happen. And yet, folks who truly need help because of say a job loss or whatever, can’t get it. The system is rigged to support deadbeats.
