It’s nothing like it used to be, but is still good for the crappie and catfish.
Bass fishing is abysmal

The shop south of the interstate is closed, I don’t think the old man is still alive either. They sell them at the marina when they have them in stock!

I know you said cheap but when it comes to rain gear, you are better to buy once and cry once.

I bought a set of the top of the line Simms rain gear about 8 years ago and I’ve never gotten wet.

I’ve fished in tournaments for 8 hours in a constant downpour and stay completely dry

No such thing as a cull, we have beat that dead horse a thousand times. That’s another thing people use to justify pulling the trigger!

We didn’t draw a tag but have someone that did coming to hunt tomorrow.
This for sure, I would call sheriffs department and let them run serial #s.

Last thing you want to do is be toting around a stolen firearm or a firearm that’s been used to commit murder.

If serial #s check out, sell em
Madison Parish is dry. All our cypress brakes are dry as a bone. Need a lot of rainfall

re: What bucks do you pass on?

We shoot age also, 5 year old minimum.

A 3.5 year old buck is like a teenager. If he was big at 3.5 then he could have been huge at 5.5

That’s right, if we were all the same. The world would be a boring place.

I’m not a pro, just going by what we have seen hunting the same piece of ground for 20 years.

We have way to many doe as well, we kil 25 to 30 a year on DMAP and could kill twice that many.
I promise you they check em

That’s where you are wrong. The feeders pull in the doe. When they go to cruising and looking, they will hit every feeder on the property looking and smelling.

They may not eat the corn but they will check them, when the time is right!
This is the way,
Louisiana needs to drop bucks down to 2 per year, with only one being able to be shot with a rifle.

Shorten the rifle season some and let more bucks survive. This will in turn create bigger bucks.

It’s pretty simple but there is this culture that is ingrained into people that they must shoot every buck they see.
We were given the option of using artificial or shiners.
We tried both. Get a lot more bites on the shiners.
The lakes are fished hard. A lot of the fish had marks where they had been caught and released.
You got to think, they are taking fishing trips 365 days a year.
I’ve been 3 times on the guided Disney trips.

It all depends on which guide you get.

The first time we fished for 4 hours and absolutely smashed them. Like caught 40 to 50 bass and a bunch in the 3 to 5# range.

The second trip was also a 4 hr trip.
We only caught 5 fish the whole trip. It was terrible.

The 3rd trip was a 2hr trip. It was decent but not great. We caught 7 to 8 fish with the biggest being around 4#

I think I’m going to seed and cover next week, which will be around the 15th.

I held off, I have it all disced up and ready.

Been busy with kids football and baseball. Started to plant some today but decided to wait another week.

How many folks have planted?

I’ve got it all disced up, just waiting for a for sure rain.
