I'm far from poor but this is some of the dumbest shite I've ever seen. I mean, what's next? Tipping the checkout girl at the grocery store? The guy at the oil change place? The nurse who takes your vitals on a routine doctor visit? It's completely out of hand because dumb fricks like this guy think they have to tip a cleaning lady they'll never see...lol.

I had a cleaning lady come to the door once and I was dealing with a website offline, so I asked her if she could come back later.
She was gracious. Got my issue resolved and left the room. When I returned that evening she had left me a nice note that she noticed how stressed I looked when I opened the door, and hoped my day had gotten better.
Also, a bottle of water and a bag of pretzels.

I made a point the next day before I checked out to find her and thank her personally for her kindness and gave her $50. Don't regret it at all.

Depends on the services the hotel provides. Basic morning maintenance I usually leave $5 per night. Full service hotel where they’re in the room more than twice a day I leave $10-$20 per night.

If you are a slob tip heavy, if you prep a room before you leave maybe less

Before I leave I strip the beds and pile the used washables (towels / washcloths) by the door. I have worked for really rich folks and they are slobs as they probably never had to clean up after themselves as kids. It is a crap job and a little kindness is a good way to offset the crap they have to deal with.

If they made the bed every day I usually leave $5a day at the end. If they didn't do anything buy refill towels I'll leave my pocket change on the dresser.
