Depends on how long I’m there and if it’s just me or me and the whole family but generally I’ll leave $5/night. I was in Jersey all week last week and I left a $20 for 5 nights but I’m very neat/tidy and respectful of those folks so I tend to “pick up” before I leave.

One of the few services that I tip BEFORE service is complete. Leave a few $$ the first day and get top notch service the rest of the stay.

If that scenario or something similar took place, how much would you recommend leaving?

There’s wisdom to that. You can notice the difference at times.

About 10 years ago I had lunch with an old friend who was a hotel manager. We got on the subject of tipping maid staff, and he said 2 to 3 dollars per night is good. Now that I have a family I tip $5 a night. If we go on vacation where we have a lot of belongings and the kids destroy it, I tip at least $10 a night. In the fancier hotels I will give more. Sometimes $25 depending on needs.

I write a note saying it is for them, they write a note back saying thank you, and they do more like give you more waters, more towels, make animals out of the towels, etc.

If you give you will get, and it shows them how appreciated they are and how thoughtful you are.

Usually 5-10 dollars. They don’t make a lot of money, but neither do I. I know it’s their job but I appreciate them cleaning up after me and if I was in their position I’d probably be happy to get a few dollars while working. So why not.

I usually tip all I have. Well, I leave all the DNA I can on the sheets and wash cloths. Same thing.

I don't tip anything to the hotel cleaning crew.

Since when do we tip for people making non-server salaries and doing the basics of their jobs? I don't have a tip jar on my desk when meeting with my clients.

They're doing their jobs and I'm not a slob to put any extra stress on their job.

I have stayed in hotels hundreds of times for work over my career, not to mention personal travel. Like someone mentioned on PG1, this thread is the first time I've ever heard of tipping the maid service

That’s not a bad idea to put a tip jar on your desk?

I usually leave a $20 bill on the table for them. Also leave the Do not Disturb sign on. Feel like they need it more than me.

When my ex and I would go to a BnB, I think I usually left 5 a night in the room and still tipped the waitress in the dining area too.

$0

I have never tipped a hotel cleaning service and dont intend to start.

I always tip 20% for food/beverage service but not for people I never see.
