When I returned that evening she had left me a nice note that she noticed how stressed I looked when I opened the door, and hoped my day had gotten better. Also, a bottle of water and a bag of pretzels.

I made a point the next day before I checked out to find her and thank her personally for her kindness and gave her $50. Don't regret it at all.
Too bad you checked out the next morning. She might have wanted to help make your day better if she saw you again

I always tip 20% for food/beverage service but not for people I never see.

What if the cleaning guy decides to jack off on your pillow case to get back at you?

Never have & probably never will.

I've rarely even been offered housekeeping service in Covid and post-Covid hotel stays less than 4 nights. However, hotel rates have only gone up.

If she's doing nothing, zero.

If shes having to pick up my jizz soaked towels that I left all over, also zero.

Had a chick (that I never saw) while I was at a hotel in Greenville.... My work day was rough and she had cleaned and left me a very nice and positive note that picked me up. I put $100 in an envelope, put her name on the outside and left it with the front desk.

I have never done that before or since.

Normally I just throw down a 10 or 20 as I am leaving.

There’s wisdom to that. You can notice the difference at times.

The difference in what gramps?

Some of you haven’t stayed in a hotel in years. They dont even come to your room daily anymore unless you ask them too.

So it is probable that the person who cleaned your room after departure was not the same as the person/people who cleaned it the other 4 days. This person gets the entire $20 while the others get zilch.

On Friday I tipped the FedEx driver who delivered a package to my house.

I have also tipped a Spectrum salesman for taking the time to walk up my driveway and talk to me about their plans even though I didn’t get their service.

I usually tip convenience store clerks at least a $1 for their efforts in ringing up my 1 or 2 items.

I tip everyone hanging around the hostess stand at a restaurant.

Etc, etc.. Basically, I just tip everyone for everything because it makes me feel like I am better than those who don’t.

I have never tipped them before in my life. No need to start now.

I tip the maids who clean my house.

I've only tipped once and that was because she was a hot Latina I was trying to get some turn down service from

while I agree that tipping culture is out of control, if I happen to have 5 or 10 bucks I'll leave it. If I don't have it, I don't sweat it.

We are good about tidying up before leaving, even.

I'm thankful I don't have to work that job.

Having said that I'll avoid valet or bellhop service just to avoid having to tip.

That is what we leave for the garbagemen, that was common back in the 60's to leave booze as a tip.

I am old an still have to stay in hotels now. If you engage folks they will engage you and if you ignore them, they will ignore you.

If you do sports trips you generally stay at the same places and they do tend to remember you.

Does half the OT walk around with $100 in $1s so they can tip everyone they come across? Do people ever ask you if you're going to a strip club? This is fascinating.
