We don't eat out hardly at all and cook meals that will last through a couple of lunches or dinner the next day. We definitely could spend a lot more, but found it's the easiest place to save money budget wise.

Plus with a toddler and infant, and two working parents, we hardly have time to cook more than 3-4 times a week.

Does wine count?

If not maybe $100 per week for a family of three.

Probably average around $300 for 2 people. We keep a lot of staples on hand so I'm mostly just buying proteins and veggies and occasionally replacing a spice or sauce.

That only includes groceries, though...we go out to eat every so often, and sometimes he'll grab a sandwich or something when he's at work, although he mostly just eats when he gets home, and I generally only eat once a day as well.

How you go about shopping, has a lot to do with costs.
I do most of the shopping at our house, and I will go to different places for different items. For instance: my daughter drinks a lot of juice, so I will go buy that at The Dollar Tree, it's less than 1/2 of the grocery store price, If I see a good deal on meat, I buy a lot of it and we freeze it. I Don't buy any chips or candy or junk food, no pizza rolls or hot pockets or anything like that.
Most everything we eat, has to be cooked. We buy a lot of The stir fry frozen veggies to cook with some kind of meat and rice. I really like beans and rice too, loaded down with sausage and onions and peppers, sometimes we just eat hamburger helper, loaded down with onions and peppers. We all like it.

Probable around $400. Family of three. Wife (no pics) uses the YNAB app to allocate money for different bills and expenses and that’s usually what we have set aside for groceries.

800 for 4 people is

26 dollars a day

3 meals each is 12 per day...

So 800 bucks is 2 dollars per meal...

What are you eating on at 512 a month?

Check your receipts again...

Family of 4 with 2 teens is easily a 1000 a month...

Including things like toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc, we spend ~$1,500/mth. Family of 5. Rarely eat out. Host relatively often. I probably grill steaks at least once a week. Food is by far our largest expenditure outside of a mortgage/escrow, but we enjoy it.

ETA - AMEX year end summary says we spent $20,500 between our 3 primary grocery stores.

I don't eat out much either. Seventy-five percent of my groceries are bought at Walmart. Nothing extravagant. Still 1200-1400 per month.

$400 to 600/month. Wife, daughter and myself.

I just thought of something after posting this. That amount is also one trip. For a month it's probably closer to $850 and as my daughter gets older and eats more, it'll only go up.

Eating out probably amounts to about $400-500. We don't do eat out or take out often.

Monthly average is $888 but the last 4 months have been closer to $1000. But that's just broken down by store, so like a trip to target or Walmart where we get something other than food is included.

But I would think we spend over $800. Family of 3. Honestly that's better than it used to be. We've had plenty of discussions about the difference between things we need and things we "should have".

Family of 4 (both kids under 3). Probably $550-600 a month. We eat out maybe once or twice a week. That’s just food though.
