Banking, financial positions. I'm in consulting and in office we don't have to wear a suit, but when we visit many of our clients we have to wear a suit. Why are y'all acting like no where requires a suite daily? I know they aren't required in plants, but it's not like this is some crazy concept.

Excellent point on the shoes. Have fun being miserable if you buy cheap shoes that you have to wear everyday.

I’m a fan of Ecco dress shoes. Wore them every day in Chicago with a 4 block walk to and from the train station. Held up great and my feet never hurt. $150 ish. Wore them every single day and got a new pair every two years or so,.

Not OT baller status. Will be around $75k

Man it would be hard for me to wear a suit daily for only 75K.

Congrats on the new job. Hope it goes places.

I think most businesses have trended towards business casual and even casual. I worked for a tech company for about a decade and we could wear jeans and a t-shirt in the office and business casual when working with clients.

Current job used to be long sleeve button up and and tie and went business casual a few years ago.

Need...probably 3-5.

I have around 12-15, i think getting in double figures is a good amount if you're doing this every day for years and years.

7-10ish depending on how flashy of a dresser you are. you could wear a simple navy or charcoal suit twice a week if you wanted to, but if you add some windowpanes or pinstripes you need to space those out a little more.

3 is plenty. It is not so much as the amount of suits you have, buy more about the shirt/tie combinations.

I personally have 3 suits, black, black with pinstripes, and blue. I also have a blue sport coat.

Because as others have said, it's rare to find a business these days that requires a suit at all times.

I work for a very large corporate law firm and even the attorneys only wear suits when meeting with clients. Also a large Morgan Stanley office here, and I rarely if ever see them in suits.

Related question: how many times can you wear a suit before it must be dry cleaned?

Pharma sales, Funeral home, Men's clothing store, or cell phone store is my guess.

Poster needs to go to Jos A Banks, and make a deal with a sales person to buy five of the tailored suits, not the boxy off the rack suits.

Get a couple sportcoats to be able to mix and match with different pants/shirt combos. Will allow you to buy fewer, while not appearing to wear the same suit everyday.

A suit should have the same color match between the pants and jacket, and looks weird when off even if close. The sportscoat isn't supposed to match.

Consultants who work in the financial services sector have to wear suits a lot - particularly as they progress within their company. At the Senior Manager/Director level and above, the expectation to wear a suit increases (at least until you get so senior no one is probably going to tell you anything). At my company while the listed dress code is "business-casual" the expectation is that I wear suit and tie more often than not when on the client site.

There are still plenty of banks in NYC and North Carolina that still require or "expect" suit and tie (despite a lower dress-code requirement), but it also depends on what business unit/office location. Smaller community banks in the south with "old-school" management also require suit and ties all the time.
