As a youngster those cold rainy winter days and evenings were chosen by my mom to teach you siblings and I how to sew and how to use a sewing machine as well. Those lessons served us well going forward and lessened her daily workload. She used the same technique for teaching cooking and other useful life skills.
I once used a pattern and sewed an entire shirt and darted shirts and pants to have them fit much better, and I thank her for her foresight. RIP mom, I love you!

I know how to do the basics.
I do have some clothes glue that I may use for certain situations too.
My mom wasnt opposed to teaching us the basics like this. Dad encouraged it. Also, remember making a baseball bat pillow (wonder what happened to that thing. Ha) in 7th grade HomeEc class.

I actually do all of the sewing and cooking for my wife and kids.
I enjoy the cooking, the sewing thing for everyone else just kind of happened once my wife caught me sewing something of my own early in our relationship.
I don't mind doing it, but wish any of them would watch and learn.

Learned it from a guy I re-enacted with. I’ve made two kilts with the skill at this point. Much more comfortable doing it by hand than with a machine at this point, too.

I don’t but my grandfather did. He learned how to patch clothes together during the depression, and in the army during WWII he had to sew his own patches on his uniform.

My sewing is about like my welding - I can make two objects stick together.
Except leather work. I've done a fair amount of sewing/stitching leather.

dude? all you gotta do is string a few loops and tie knots
now dont expect us to sew an outfit from scratch but if you cant tie a hole shut in a pocket or sock then do the world a favor and kill yourself

I can run needle and thread or sewing machine.

Raised by a single mother. She didn't teach me to throw a football or how to handle a gun, but she did teach me how to sew...to a point, anyway.

I learned some basic sewing skills when younger. Came in pretty handy when I got a nasty gash on my leg backpacking and had to put in my own sutures.
