The problem with most marriages today is people don’t understand what it means to love someone. They think it’s an involuntary reflex that just happens. That’s why so many marriages end when one or both decide one day they’ve “grown apart”.

There is nothing involuntary about love, it’s a willful action. You choose to love someone. And it’s not just words you say. As I said, love is an action. You act out your love for your significant other by daily acts of love for them. People don’t seem to know this any more. That’s why so many marriages fail.

A relationship built on mutual advantage. I can get behind that. Lots of women think they can shite on their husband nonstop but still expect the Royal lifestyle.

I married my best friend 53 years ago and through three great kids and 20 years of living in the Middle East and Far East we have done extremely well. Retired at age 51 for good and continued to travel through western US and Alaska. Sex at 73 is great.

Key is to marry your best friend

Happy is such a subjective term.

FTR, my wife and I are the only ones of our combined siblings ( me 2, her 1) that are not divorced.

I'm the youngest of 5 kids and only one of my siblings had both married and stayed married.

Can't help wondering if our parents had something to do with that. They probably should have gotten divorced at some point a long time ago.

After her view of and faith in God, it's the most important quality of a fantastic wife.

From my perspective, nearly all of my friends seem happy with their marriage.

But you never know I guess. I have one or two that are divorced, and one or two more that bitch but only slightly more than the usual petty shite we all vent about. I have a few whose marriages are envious. They happen to be exceptional men so it makes sense.

I'd change my entire being if it meant keeping my wife. But because I have such a great one, she inexplicably doesn't want me to change too much. Drink a little less, go to church a little (a lot) more. Which are both fair and things I continue to work on because she ain't wrong.

Me and pretty much all of my circle of friends are happy in our marriages. We are all mature, intelligent and well adjusted.

Of course, we are also all getting old and the few who were in bad marriages got out of them some time ago.

My wife probably bitches about me more than I do her. I probably don't deserve her but I got her.

Being intelligent and happy marriages aren't necessarily mutual.

The rise of social media is the downfall of the modern marriage.

Women and men can connect easier with old friends/flames, find hook ups online, listen to so called experts that cause them to have misconceptions about their marriages, get unhealthy advice about their problems, etc…..

Social media makes it easier and easier to find and have a extra marital affair.
