I once had a gentleman swindle me out of $10. He assured me that he could tell me where I procured my footwear. In the end he only made wordplay, informing me that my shoes were, in fact, on my feet.
What a huckster….

Long time ago, prob mid 90's.
Went to a parade in the daytime on Canal. Big one, I forget which one...
was with a group, including my girlfriend. We were walking from the CBD towards the route, lotta people everywhere. She and I were in the back of our group, about 8 people. Raggedy old homeless man called "Kelly" to my girlfriend- not her name- and grabbed her wrist. I barely saw it out of the corner of my eye; my group kept going. She said "that's not me" and tried to keep moving, and he yanked her with both arms towards an alley. I grabbed her other arm and pulled her back and yelled something, and he vanished. I wanted to go after him, but our group was now a block ahead and didn't hear/see us. She just wanted to get the frick away from there. Took us awhile to catch the group, nobody else in the crowd noticed. She was shook, I was pissed. We'd been to Mardi Gras and Saints games a bunch, never had a problem before. She's never been back since, turned down tickets to the Sugar Bowl in 2001 saying "frick that place".

I got attacked by a homeless person fall 2021 while walking my dog in the CBD, literally only a block from my apartment that I had at the time. Dog was useless, and an NOPD officer watched it happen six feet away and never got off her cell phone.

I got pushed from behind down a flight of stairs in a bar off of bourbon street. I made a comment to a drunk white dude staring down my wife who was walking down a few feet in front of me. Didn't have the balls to confront me face to face and just ran off. Had 2 cracked ribs. I had a few glasses of scotch so I didn't feel anything till the morning.
Other than that...nothing else to report.

Another great example. Me and a work buddy sat in a parking lot and watched two cars get broken into at 11am. Called the cops and decided pretty quickly that it was pointless.
It amazes me that people defend that shithole.

I bought a rap CD from a hawker on bourbon about 10 years ago and it was terrible.

Probably been about 100 times in the last 25-30 years and never one incident that could be construed as bad or scary for me. Just lucky I guess.

Its not just defending it...they'll try to discredit anyone who speaks anything against it. If you do not share the love and affinity for that city the apologists will do and say anything to try to convince you and anyone else who will listen that your opinion has no validity and carries no weight.

You're lucky to be alive. I'm not even joking.

I lived in both Mid City and the Bywater. Most bad thing never get reported. I have been assaulted by high school kids, harassed on Canal st, car ticketed in a legal parking spot,, Chased burglars away, had my car broken into. Not shot yet so I guess I'm ok.
