Maybe we want to be close to “abnormal” family and friends.

There’s a reason millions of people travel for thanksgiving and Christmas. Seeing family here and there is a way healthier option than to sacrifice your own quality of life just for the sake of being “close to friends and family”.

You get past age 45 or so and you start the realize that being happy where you live and quality of life is strictly up to you and not dependent on friends and family.

So many people on here sound miserable and would rather move to a better place but they seem stuck strictly due to “friends and family”.

I have too much invested to ever leave plus I love the fishing too much. But damn Idaho would be nice. Lol

The Cajun diaspora is for real. Only going to get worse after this storm. I’m curious to why places like Monroe Ruston & Natchitoches don’t really push for growth to attract the people leaving south Louisiana. People are so quick to head to Dallas and Houston. That’s where the jobs are.

I’d love to move out of Louisiana

But Covid and Hurricane Sally ruined a few prospects the last two years.

So after this Ida mess - time to start looking again

My wife and I are going to relocate to Naples, FL next year. Our decision has nothing to do with mother nature though. Crime, trash, poor infrastructure, and incompetent leadership are why we are done with this shite hole.

I wouldn’t call it loyalty to Louisiana, I’d call it loyalty to myself. I’ve had a good life here, even with its pitfalls, made a good living and had a bunch of fun. I’m within an hours drive of everything I enjoy doing that makes me happy and a walk or phone call away from any help I need.

Maybe I could live in maybe a prettier place, that’s debatable. Maybe a richer place, doesn’t do me much good if I can’t get some. Maybe a more civilized place, among assholes that can’t be bothered to wave much less help a neighbor. I could go on but it’s mute

May end up in Houston one day but that is mostly medical related. Even though Houston is on the coast, they have a way to avoid most hurricane activity

Hot as fu**
Still has shitty weather
Only + is little more to do and Texas leadership versus LA.

Otherwise, it's not far enough away

Don’t think I’ll be personally missed but if enough people like me leave that makes a bad situation for a poor shithole state even worse.

The last drive out of this place will be the happiest one of my life

Mind boggling?

Both of my and my wife’s entire families are here. My kids are in school and have friends here. All of my friends are here. Both my and my wife’s careers. Everything I’ve ever worked for and owned is here.

It’s mind boggling to you that I won’t just leave every thing and everyone behind and risk starting all over again with small kids and just hoping someone can care for everyone I leave?

But I tell you right now If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life, And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.

I'd thank my lucky stars to be living here today, Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away.

I always thought the phrase was mind bottling. Not mind boggling.

This is the talk of someone who hasn't ventured far out of Assumption Parish much less out of Louisiana.

They’ve been leaving LA for years. I’m willing to bet the median income of people who’ve left the state over the past decade or so is probably over 75k and someone with a college education or higher.

nah dick. I grew up in Ascension, still have a house there too and enough other property there to build 50 more by today’s acceptable yard size standards. Have worked in other states getting paid stupid money to just be there and point. Have vacation all over the country. I’m here because I choose to be here

Where you live? I’ll buy a house next door maybe and torment your dumb arse everyday just because you need it

I know a lot of normal people who live there and make a lot of money. Why would they leave?

I'll be moving out of NWLA soon but nothing to do with the state. Recent health issues have accelerated plans for myself and my fiancée, closing on a house in AR soon. Guess I need to get a LSU flag to fly in the front yard to tick off the Razorback homers.
