LA has its warts but don’t you think you’re comparing it to somewhere you’re not familiar with? The grass is always greener.

Had a co-worker move to Dallas because his wife said Baton Rouge was crime ridden. Second week in Dallas they were car jacked at gunpoint.

if my job situation was easy to re-create elsewhere, i'd be gone already. i dont like hot weather, and the hurricane issues are too frequent for my tastes.

As long as we aren't talking about -30. I'd rather it be 18 degrees than 97

Every other winter this location will dip into the -20s at night but it warms up fast.

Typically youre talking 20s-30s during the day. Single digits at night. About 90" of snow for the cold season.

Even though Houston is on the coast, they have a way to avoid most hurricane activity.

I guess you for got about Harvey? There is no way to avoid a hurricane if you are on the Gulf Coast.

Sylva traffic is as bad as Baton Rouge these days. Hold out for a little while as the real estate bubble is about to burst here.

Doesn't take a hurricane to push many to leave but i'm sure it doesn't help. Louisiana and WV going to be battling out out for worst state in the union. Louisiana May win because at least WV doesnt get hurricanes

That's because you can't fix the shake machine. Put that on your resume and try again.

LSU is a shithole of CRT and BLM now and
we agree on something. Where I live has all that I want and need. Been dealing with shite my whole and have no interest in dealing with a different brand of the same shite elsewhere. At least here I’m a member of a small army that leaves nobody alone dealing with their shite. Anybody wants to, GTFO, you won’t be missed

According to climate change experts I'll have ocean front property in Shreveport by 2040 so why go anywhere?

Not easy to pick up and leave. Taking kids out of a school away from their friends, way easier said than done.

Not if you love your kids and have their best interest in mind. There’s a reason 99% of people that leave Louisiana say it’s the best decision they ever made.

It is mind boggling to me that any “normal” people would choose to still live there
Normal people dont.

I’ve traveled extensively across the US. I’ve found people being proud of being from several different cities and states. But they’re also transient and completely open to moving to a better place be it for relocating for work or pleasure, or raising a family.

The Louisiana lifer mentality is so weird and one that is very hard to comprehend given not only the current economic situation and hurricanes but over the past 30-40 years of stagnant population growth along with anemic schools, health care, crime and just about every quality of life metric.

The loyalty to Louisiana is peculiar and you don’t see that with the rest of the 49 states. It’s almost as if the concept of don’t be ashamed of where you’re from but explore and establish yourself in a much better place doesn’t resonate with the typical Louisiana lifer.

still beats the absolute frick out of Louisiana summers

Everybody works indoors in ac. Its really that simple. I build homes for a living and I am perfectly comfortable in this Louisiana heat sitting the shade after work, don't ever go inside till dark. Have friends & family come over from time to time that are soy boys that work in the ac and then turn on their truck ac, then run in the house to ac...... They are like how the frick do you stand this heat? Where are the real men at? I know I'm a holdover from the old days but I find myself wishing all yall would leave Louisiana and leave it all to me. I got this!

I’ll probably leave too. I’ll keep my home here and Florida. But I’ve always wanted to have a home in the mountains too.
