re: How many houses have you purchased? (Main residence)

I’m on #5. I’ll be here for a while though. The others were all places I lived 2-5 years and looked at as ‘investments’. I made decent money on them and always upgraded the next house. If my wife liked moving, I’d keep doing it and have a paid-off house in a couple more moves.

My parents moved houses a ton as a kid so I have a great desire to stay in my houses longer. I’m on my first one.

5th. Upgrade about every 5 years. Roll equity into better house, keep relatively same note.

#1, been here for 7 years and just refinanced. I'm 33.

Wish that was the case for me. Barely broke even on last house after being there for 12.5 yrs. sold right after last oilfield crash. I will never look at a home as a guaranteed wealth builder.

3 in 28 years. This should be our final unless the kids all move to a general area and we move to be near them.

outgrew the first one
second was trashed by katrina. would have stopped there if that didnt happen.
in #3 now
would like to retire in #4 somewhere with a lot more space.

One. It will be 30 years next year. It's been paid off for around 15 years. I will probably move when I retire. May just rent the house or sell not sure yet.

Owned no. 1 for 11 years. Thought of moving but instead added on to it twice before running out of room. Built No. 2 ten years ago in my early 40s. May own another primary residence someday but not for a while.

Currently in #4. The original plan was starter home then forever home. Mix in a divorce and remarriage and best laid plans go out the window.

still in second.
Owned first one for 17 years. 8+ years in current.

I’m 38 and building my 3rd right now.

#1, 37yr old, been in house 11yrs.
I often think about upgrading, but I’ll start shipping kids out in just a few more years.
When we bought the house my income was less than half of what it is today. I get a ton of peace of mind from living well within my income.

Two.
I helped a guy at work move 2 years ago and he was just telling me yesterday he is not going to spend the money for a privacy fence and put a chain-link fence up for his new puppies because he doesn't see them being there more than 2 more years.
That is nuts to me. I hate moving just about more than anything in this world.

Between the wife and I, this is house number four. I also own the house my mother lives in.

I’m on #3. I’m in my 40’s. I can’t imagine moving from the home we are in now unless we move out of state. My wife has mentioned a few times about selling our current house to move to one with a pool. I don’t see packing all of our shite to move for something that trivial.

On number 4 in 16 years and it will be our last til we retire, assuming we do. Wife is an only child, so at some point, we’ll sell ours and her parents’ and head to the beach.
