Many of my friends move every 3 to 5 years.
Thats the way to do it.
Buy the lot right in a desirable area.
Sub the house yourself
Do not be the most expensive house in the neighborhood,
Sell it in 3-5 years,
Do this 3-4 times and the next one house should be just about free - definitely mortgage free.

One. Sold it as a byproduct of my divorce and my wife bought our current residence.
Went from 1/3 acre in Towne Lake (lived there 6 years) to 25 acres in Floyd County (been here 12 years). Best decision we ever made (after children).

38 years old, on house number 3
Bought #1 in 2008 when I was single
Bought #2 in 2014 with my wife
Just bought #3 this year now that we have children. I don't plan on moving until they're out of the house, unless I have to relocate for work.

3 for me. Starter home when young, transfer to another star for #2, and back to LA for #3. We have been in this one for 24 years now, and will be our last unless we retire to something smaller and more manageable when older.

On #2, we’ve been in it for 16 years. We were in #1 for 4. Plan on staying here for many more years. Good neighbors all around the same age

We’re on number 1, and have been here about 3 years. We skipped the “starter home” purchase and bought something that we can grow into. I do still look at real estate from time to time, but I could also see us living here for 20 years.

I'm now on my 3rd, just under contract to sell, and building #4, which is to be my retirement home.

46 years old on #3. This is the last for a long time

5. Bought my first house in 93.

Never purchased a house, but have built 5 over 17.5 years so average of 3.5 years per move. Only residence I ever purchased was a trailer when me and the wife got married. Lived in it for 2.5 years, saved enough to build our first house.
