I still have to go to Houston a few times a year for business and everytime I look for a way to get out of it. Downtown sucks, their little pockets of happy hour sucks, few good restaurants but nothing special
pure biased ignorance. dumbest thing I’ve read on the OT today

New Orleans is pretty awesome if you're wealthy.
If you have the means New Orleans has much more to offer and is a much better place to live than Houston.
But living in Cinco Ranch or whatever burbs Houston has to make $30k millionaires feel rich has to offer doesn’t compare to living in New Orleans proper.

So you can’t refute my claim?

People who say New Orleans has better food can you care to elaborate. I know damn well you can't get better BBQ, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Mexican, African, Japanese, and on and on. I get you have better Creole and Cajun but that is about it.

I have lived in and owned properties in both.
Houston was better for me.
Now we've retired well north of the lake and wouldn't go back to either. (A NOLA friend outdid our "north of the lake" with his announcement when he sent around change of address with his new address in Bellingham Washington which he also described as "north of da lake")

How many people who have children in New Orleans would send their child to a NO public school?

Your inferiority complex is palpable

As NO residents they have inferiority and victim complex. It’s nauseating.

Has any restaurant in Houston ever won any type of award? James Beard?
I’ve been to some really nice restaurants in Houston. But like I said. They are a few.

My cousins all grew up in New Orleans, and their parents paid out the arse in private school tuition only for them to grow up and go to second-rate southern SLACs. Meanwhile, I grew up in a Houston suburb, went to one of the best public high schools in Texas for $0 tuition, and subsequently attended a Top 50 national university.
You do the math.
You do the math.

I was born & raised in NOLA, went to H.S. at Rummel and graduated from SLU, returned to N.O. before I took a job that sent me to Houston. I had anywhere from 3-5 roommates, all from Ohio or Pennsylvania. The 1st 6 months here I was homesick and had some major culture shock issues, especially food wise...this was back in the 80's. I was driving or flying back to NOLA at least once a month. I never expected to stay here in Houston. But...things changed- I got married to a Houston girl, my sister & her family moved here, then my parents came here too. I started to visit NOLA less & less and finally accepted that Houston is my home and I am happy here. While I am proud of the fact I grew up in NOLA, I don't think it is the same city today;I get sad when I visit. Funny after all the years I have lived in Houston, people hear my accent and still ask me if I am from Boston or Brooklyn!
