I’ve lived in both NOLA and Houston for several years, and in my opinion NOLA is a far, far better City than Houston in almost every conceivable way.. culture (aka ‘culcha to the OT), fun things to do, FOOD, pro sports teams (Saints > Texans by a mile), uniqueness, character, etc etc.. things that aren’t measurable or quantifiable in some study are in far greater abundance in NOLA... but Houston is a far more LIVABLE city.. better infrastructure , better economy, better schools... So i guess in response to the OP’s question, Houston would be a ‘better place to live’.. but NOLA is a far better City.

I'd guess houston is quite a bit more expensive if you're looking inside the loop. people call the woodlands "houston" but it's 30 miles away.

It's 2500-3000 for a 2 BR in the warehouse district in NOLA and it's cheaper to live in midtown or UK. Depends on what you want. Food is much better in New Orleans, but other than that I prefer Houston. Nightlife, people and jobs are a ton better in Houston.

I still have to go to Houston a few times a year for business and everytime I look for a way to get out of it. Downtown sucks, their little pockets of happy hour sucks, few good restaurants but nothing special.

I’d rather drive in, have a meeting or 2 then drive back home.

Explain why one would prefer Houston to Nola?

Better jobs
Higher pay
Lower taxes
Better entertainment
Better people
Better leadership
Better infrastructure
Better public services
Better schools

Basically better than NOLA in all ways except for food.

I’ve lived the majority of my life on both.

Houston is better. Less aggravation. Easier to avoid crime and scuzzy criminals and most of all no racial tension.

Food is better in New Orleans but really that’s about it. And I’m perfectly fine with Tex mex so even the food isn’t that much of an advantage.

New Orleans is more expensive. I was shocked at how expensive and shitty Nola grocery stores are.

I dont give a shite about Mardi Gras or jazz fest but for people who do like that kind of thing, Nola appeals. I think Nola could be a great city but the corruption and politics and poverty ring it down too much for me.

Ultimately I’m glad I don’t live in either anymore. But I’d take Houston over Nola if I had to choose.

I lived in both. Houston is nice, especially the suburbs north......like The Woodlands....Conroe. NOLA is a shithole.....and I'm being generous.

Houston has some of the best restaurants in America, and certainly has a far more diverse selection than NOLA can dream of.

I don't live in Houston but I work there a lot. ..yes the mayor sucks but the leadership as a whole over the last 2 decades has been miles better than in New Orleans.

Wow. Houston is exponentially better than the stinking filth that is New Orleans, LA.

I mean I think Nola has better food overall but Houston is way more diverse and not far behind.

Yes Houston definitely has more Mexican restaurants than New Orleans that’s not even debatable

Anyone who thinks the food scene in Houston is at all lacking is stupid beyond repair.

-grew up in & love Nola
