I have pretty decent "bush craft" skills, though never used. My daughter (not 14) used to watch reruns of Survivorman with me. She would ask if we could make the different traps, or try to make fire with sticks and such. So the knowledge is there, but no real experience with it.
What N&A comes down to, though, is withstanding discomfort and, in some cases, outright torture. Put me in one of the less uncomfortable spots, like when they are in Alabama, and I am golden. I laugh at home many times they end up in a cold place and build lean-to style shelters, which most experts will tell you isn't really a shelter at all.

Knowing I could tap out at any moment I don't know if I'd last a single night. There's not a single moment that you're comfortable. Knowing how to survive is probably the easy part. Having the mental strength to keep going would be the toughest I would think.
Just like the show Alone. Knowing I had that radio in my pocket I'd probably tap out the first time I got really freakin' hungry or found a tick on my nutsack.
I primitive camp for hunting about 30 nights per year. Usually one trip for a week+ then a lot of weekend trips. Even with a full camp kitchen, truck nearby, nice mattress in the tent, etc by night 6 I'm ready to get the hell back home. Couldn't imagine how tough it'd be if your life was in danger and you didn't have food.

I have the outdoor skills, but I can’t imagine eating gross stuff like grubs and fish eyeballs.
Also, ones I’ve seen where they’re in Africa around lions or wading around in the Atchafalaya basin…frick that.

I tell people and I’m serious, people really should camp in a tent 2 nights a year. One night you wake up feeling tired and what not, but usually that second night and morning really punches you in the face. It really wakes you up to how good we have it. Even if you are somewhere like the Colorado mountains with perfect overnight low temps and dry air, not having running water, your favorite mattress to sleep on, hvac, etc really wakes your arse up.
But yes, the bugs in some of these Swamp and jungle areas would be insane. The women that have survived with those bug issues when the POS men they put on the shows go home after a day or 3 are pretty damn hardcore.
We’ve gotten extremely soft as a society and that’s why Covid scared me, it really wouldn’t take much and absolute societal chaos would occur and I’m not a conspiracy guy or prepper by any means.

Pretty easy to sit back and let the collapse happen. In 1 week, I imagine half the people will be gone. You are then free to roam as long as you're armed.

The Louisiana and Mississippi were the most brutal locations.
I’d last longer with lions and hyenas than mosquitos and cotton mouths.
I guess just knowing about the swamps would demoralize you coming out of the gate.

The mosquitoes are a deal breaker, I’ve worked enough at night in the delta to know they will carry you off no matter what you do.
It’s not just the mosquitoes, but make no mistake they are bad.
Most populated coastal areas are sprayed or theyd be overrun by the multiple species which live there including those giant mosquitoes that look like spiders when they land and leave massive bites when they get you.
Other times of the year the gnats come in clouds. If the wind isn’t up to carry them off it makes fishing impossible and I have no idea how you’d sleep or function even with proper clothes and DEET.
Then you get into yellow flies and other types that leave welts.
Bottom line, no, I wouldn’t last without gear because without it and AC I wouldn’t want to live or visit those areas by choice in the first place.
Same goes for Alaska, Minnesota, parts of Maine, Canada and Northern Michigan.

I could, but would never embarrass myself and be a circus monkey for others entertainment.
People on that show should be embarrassed by going in there and degrading themselves for a small amount. They aren't getting millions to do this.
Humans have turned into shitheads and idiots

if not for the bugs I could make it a little while. But no way I could tolerate the bugs. I cant stand to sit on my patio completely dressed when the mosquitos are out.

Naked and afraid is dumb and staged.
And no I wouldn’t even get in the car on the first morning if they said the challenge was in the Atchafalaya. The mosquitos would be unbearable and I wouldn’t even attempt it.
I’d love to go on Alone, but I can’t take 3 months off of work to do that. If I won the lottery making my entry video for Alone would be one of the first things I’d do.

I think I’d fair better alone, I get mean when I’m hungry

I could make it all the way in a cooler environment, but I wouldn't make it 2-3 days in the swamp. I'm prone to heat exhaustion. Mosquito's seem to never bite me no matter how thick they are, so that wouldn't be an issue. It's the heat. Another factor is who I'm paired up with, if it's a moaner and whiner I'd tap out just to get away from that crap.

Easy.
Kill partner
Eat partner
Problem solved

That was brutal
I guess the only thing to do is cover yourself in mud at night and become nocturnal because there’s little chance you’re going to sleep at night.

Mosquito’s? About five minutes.

Matt already tried that and ended up getting Nutria Itch!

I have soft soles. So as soon as my feet hit the ground and I got a splinter or stepped on a rock, I’d probably tap. But at least I’d have that cool necklace.

There is a reason BUDS is in California. If it were in Louisiana no one would make it.
