Colleges are a club that you were supposed to attend and pay into that got you passage to a good job.
That's no longer the case.

Schooling in general is about to get a massive update. Why have kids sit there and be indoctrinated with propaganda simply because that person passed basket weaving and is now assuming control of the future of that kids mind.

It's going to go home-school / some new form of socialization.

College is about education. Some departments/majors may change, but education is still and always will be valuable.

But then how will we have college football? Those football players need an education.

When you 5x the amount of guys becoming plumbers because they now aren't going get their business degree at directional state schools, what does that do to the job market for plumbers?

Clemson is $1.5B in debt but has a $15M NIL budget and pays Dabo Swinney $11.5M/yr?

I bet their president is the guy in the trailer park with the brand new Camaro.

With A.I. seemingly taking over a large majority of jobs , I’m assuming college enrollment would drop dramatically to the point they could not remain open .

You'll know we've crossed a bridge when LSU's main campus starts investing in and marketing trades like welding, electrical trades, etc. I think it's coming sooner than you think.

63% of Americans polled in Fall 2025 said a four-year degree is not worth the cost, and the current underemployment rate for college graduates sits at 42.5%. ? That’s a staggering number, and AI anxiety is feeding into it.

Students are rethinking their paths, not dropping out entirely.

They just need to go to Ivy League schools and work for a hedge fund. Give it two years and get a MBA. That's the ticket. No underemployment.

I was in college mid to late 90s. It was obvious which people were there through a grant or other 'free money' program and would be 1 or 2 semester wonders who we would never see again as sophomores and juniors.

Just money pissed down a drain in the name of 'we have to give everybody an opportunity.'

Well, you can tell immediately they aren't going to graduate because they are at the dorms or the student union, etc. 24/7 in the middle of the day as other folks are walking and riding bikes to class buildings.

Wait until you see what happens if the NCAA folds completely. I bet you see enrollment plummet nationwide over 10% between losing athletes and those who go to schools to watch those players play.

Yes. You will see colleges revert to their previous mandate. Smaller, leaner, more focused on actual education and not being country clubs.

Hopefully soon. I’m going to trust the red blooded patriots in Silicon Valley to educate my kids any day over some purple haired Demoncrat.

Yes. To think these institutions will just curl up and die is pretty silly. After all, they have brilliant minds and, broadly speaking, a huge amount of resources that enable them to pivot to remain valuable.

Do I think you see a material evolution to college education? Yes.

I also think this will be the inflection point that causes material deflation to the cost of higher education. The ROI, NPV, Payback Period (use whichever you desire) is not there for too many graduates for the trend to not shift.

There are those that use college as a springboard to huge ROI...but that will more and more be the top graduates versus the entire graduating class.

Colleges will continue to serve as young adult day care for future members of the professional and academic class for a long time.

That's a problem for tomorrow. Now it's $250 for a call to have a plumber just look at a problem, no work even done. We have a long way to go before we have too many plumbers.
