Guy at the course is 72. He’s still throwing the javelin and playing 18 every day. He’s a scratch golfer.

My grandfather went fishing and sailing until he died. My fil goes fishing almost everyday and is 67.

And thats all awesome. But a ton of people start to have serious health problems in their mid 50's. My point is that someone at 30 shouldn't think they have 50 years to accomplish shite. They should think of 55 as their deadline because it very well could be.

If someone has to change my diapers and turn me over to prevent bed sores.

I don't want to be around.

Well, I can see that in the sense that you can’t start building a house by yourself, or a camp, or things along those lines.

But if we’re talking about cutting the grass and playing golf, 55 is just when you’re getting warmed up.

Old up enough to spoil my grandkids and they remember it. Not sure if that is in the cards for me or not.

My grandmother (died at 99) used to say that she didn't want her flu shot because the flu and subsequent pneumonia was an "old persons friend". Her daughters talked her into getting flu shots despite her old age. She ended her life pretty well compared to others with only the last 6 months being bed ridden. Although I'm positive she would've rather died a few years before if it meant avoiding being bed ridden.

Thanks, but the grandfather who died of cancer was a biological grandfather. The one still active at 72 was a step grandfather.

I know nothing about my other biological grandfather.

People have got to start taking better care of themselves. Forgot the ridiculous strain they put on the healthcare system but there’s no sound reason (other than pure lack of discipline) that so many people have such sever comorbidities at such a young age.

Yes, there are exceptions but frick man ppl just need exercise, eat healthier, regularly see a primary care physician, take their maintenance meds if they’re on them, don’t smoke, don’t take drugs (or use very irregularly), limit things like alcohol, sugar, and super high fatty foods, etc.

As many have said before it’s not necessarily easy but it’s very simple.

I felt exactly like that at one time. My grandchildren have changed my thinking, for the most part. I still have my days.

A lot of you are optimistic.

Id rather die early than spend the later years of my life slowing dying each day inside a state run nursing home.

I've got CLL, a type of Leukemia. It's most likely how I will die, so no nursing home for me. I'll enjoy every single day I'm here though.

I would probably be happy to get to 75 or so.

My FIL is 82 and still drives, but his eyesight is getting worse, and his hearing is awful, but he can generally take care of himself.

Once I get to where I can't take care for myself, it's time to go.
