How long do you want to live?

I’m in my early 50’s and can already see minor deterioration of physical and mental functioning due to aging. If being alive ever means constant physical pain, any dementia, or having to be taken care of by anyone, I want it to end there. Life should be worth living, and that kind of life isn’t, imo. Can’t provide an age, only circumstances.

Wait until one of those situations arrives and see if you feel the same way.

I want to live forever. If I get tired of it I can always shoot myself.

I guess it depends on my quality of life and if anyone is still depending on me. I'll put up with some shite if my kids still need me. If I need people to take care of me day to day to stay alive, then tap me out.

Or because you aren’t taking care of yourself.

That’s fair, but I couldn’t imagine it changing my mind.

I'm getting there but try to walk (with my dog) 4-5 days a week.
Put in 280 miles last year and plan to beat it in 2018 but sitting at a computer for 25 years has killed my stomach and lower back.

Only because, at the moment, you are not facing death.

This is something people, including myself, don't appreciate as much as they should when thinking about life. People think " well I'm probably going to live until 80ish or beyond so I if I'm 40 now I still have 40 years to do stuff". But what they aren't considering, is that after 50ish (sorry OP) and even a bit before, your health starts to fail and "doing stuff" gets more difficult and less enjoyable. The timeline to do stuff shouldn't be considered to be until your very end of life, it should be thought of until your best years are over.
So think of 55 as the end of your "doing stuff" life and if you can make it beyond that and enjoy it then bully for you.

Long enough to be able to piss on the graves of my enemies.

This is complete and utter horse shite.
You quit life at 55? Jesus titty fricking Christ.
Just kill yourself, a-hole.

Thanks
I don’t wanna think it’s over at 55.
Guy at the course is 72. He’s still throwing the javelin and playing 18 every day. He’s a scratch golfer.
My grandfather went fishing and sailing until he died. My fil goes fishing almost everyday and is 67.
Lots of people stay active into their 70’s. I’m gonna attack my 60’s. I’ll know I’m a lot closer to death, and I’ll be polite with myself. But I’m not gonna think I’ve got 15 good years left.
frick dat

One of my grandfathers was still fishing and running trot lines on Toledo Bend every day at 72. My other grandfather died of cancer at 55. I saw both happen. Circumstances.

I faced a possible fatal cancer 10 years ago, and I can tell you, you will want to live.

Hopefully you got the good genetics.
