Ok, yea, net.
I'd suggest a website like mint.com to help track your spending and monthly net income. Something's up. If you're sure the food thing isn't too outrageous, and you know it's not your spending...I'd be sure I knew what she's been spending.

Stop going out to eat 3-4 times a week, cook at home.

With 11,700 monthly NET take home, you have 5300 a month left over including that high food misc amount. Correct my math if I'm way off base anyone. I'm just curious where this money could possibly be going. May be time to get a financial adviser...

You can save more than $1,000 a month here eating steak, salmon, whatever else you like. Just cook it instead of buying it.

Eating out isn’t really the problem. There is still several thousand dollars left over after those expenses.
Maybe set up automatic savings to be transferred out of your account as soon as you’re paid? If you don’t see it, you’ll be less inclined to buy so many extras. Start with $1-2k per month.

this thread is very typical of the OT, lots of answers without reading any of the information you shared
that and some stupid myopic MFers
the short answer is you are in such an outlier housing market that you could probably live like monks, save every penny you possibly can and it will still take you several years to buy a reasonable home in that area. So you need to ask yourself, how far away from our jobs can we realistically live to make our housing costs affordable?

Being that it is in CA, I don't think you'll get anything that isn't in a bad part of town for less than $500k in the area of a major city.

Graduated college in May 2011 and bought a house in April 2017

Well only thing extravagant we do is food. We eat out 90% of the time but it’s hard to cook as two professionals. I have student loans but aside from that we have little. Don’t even have a tv baw
Add up how much you spend on food in a month. Bet you it is a lot. Hard to cook for two people? Stop being a little crying bitch

That's low as shite if you say you eat out 90% of the time. 90% of a month is about 27 days. For 2 people in a city like San Francisco, you're probably spending no less than $60 a night for dinner alone. That's $1620 solely for dinner. Say you each go conservative for lunch and spend $15 a person, that's another $810. So $2430 right there for lunch and dinner in one month and there's still 3 days left in the month. Not to mention you said misc so I imagine that includes bars, events, etc.
I bet you spend well over $3500 on food and "misc."
My wife and I spend about $500 on groceries a month, probably $400 of that on food. Meal prep Sunday for breakfast and lunch then dinner takes 10 minutes to cook fish and veggies. Plus the occasional crock pot meal I just prep in the morning. We go out to eat once or so a week, usually with parents so they either get the bill or we get the bill so it's either $0 or over $100 but it evens out over the month. BYOB places are best when we go out with friends. $20 for 2 and we bring all our own bottles.

irst you need to track exactly where all the money is going
THIS!!!
Doesn't matter how you track it, but track it. I can imagine you are spending just as much a month in rent as you are in food.
Track your spending
Make a budget
Pay off debt
Within the budget make a spot for a house savings.

OP -
You should check out this heavily downvoted but 9 page thread I started the other day. I asked if were possible for a family of 4 to spend only $500/month on food and still eat healthy. Good info and debate, but I would say that you could easily cut your food expenses down to $750/month for two adults.

I worked about 10 years and went out carousing every night and didn't have a down payment for a house.
I stopped going out every night and worked about 3 years and had a down payment for a house.
