Not gonna lie, bought my first house on a RD loan, stayed 5 years and did a bunch of improvements. Bought my second house, put 30% down and had enough left over to build a big patio.

We live in the bay area so our income is a bit inflated.

can save alot of $ by making changes there. But to answer your original question. Me and the wife were engaged and saving for a home for 2 years. Put down 40k on the home when we got married and had the house built within 6 months.

You need to master the art of the crock pot. Also it sounds like making more money could help, have you tried that?

Having a house is pretty lame. There's all kind of bills and shite. I wouldn't recommend it

2 years but I traveled and had a great salary, OT, and per diem. Put down 35%. Use a crock pot, man. My wife and I both work and go out to eat ~5x’s a month. Eating out is a huge expense. Not to mention, very unhealthy.
There’s all kinds of programs to look up on the internet about meal prepping and saving money.

You either need new jobs with better income, or you need to change your spending habits and lifestyle.
You may want to look at the debt you are carrying and topple that first, and then keep making all the payments to yourselves and it will add up quickly.
If you are living large and saving is an after thought you all will be in financial trouble for a long time.

Probably a year or two. My first house was $150k. Nothing extravagant at all. I got two roommates to help with monthly payments/expenses. It was a great way to get started.
A lot of people don’t want to make sacrifices like that these days though. People don’t want roommates or starter homes.

Holy crap $2700 a month... ouch that was way more than my house note. Hell I was paying $350 a month in 2004 for a shitty shotgun house near downtown Houma. Let me save the $30k needed for a down payment though so def worth living in that place.

I think it will get better after we pay off the cars but living in this area is hard when cheap houses are 800k

Terrible excuse bro. That is so much money down the drain if you actually look at it. I make a meal plan every sunday for the upcoming week and stick to it. Limit eating out to 1 day a week

Do you have car notes? Stop buying cars you can't afford.

I leave at 7 and usually get home by 7 at the earliest. As others have said learn to use a Crock-Pot. Also, I usually only cook about twice a week. Meal prep on the weekends and find 30 minutes one day during the week to cook another couple of days worth of food. It just takes discipline. If you want to save for a house youre going to have to make changes. You're either willing to make them or nkt, but don't bitch if you don't change anything and still don't have the money. I'm not trying be harsh those are just the facts.

There is your problem. You are broke because you are lazy.
Either take some extra time and prep meals and make dinner or order food through a service like this Core Meals.
Its $60 bucks for 12 meals (which is lunch/dinner for 6 days).
We can all sit on our high horse and tell you what you need to do, but only you can make the decision to put forth more effort to save money. Its not always the easiest or most convenient thing to do.
