The restaurants will be closed for cleaning and remodeling.

Not sure if you’ve been and sat inside in reserved areas. It’s not like it’s trashy

raise you July 4 / essence fest.

This. Bc you’re also dealing with the heat. At least for Thanksgiving, you can hang out uptown - zoo, fly, magazine, St. Charles, etc. Walking around those places in July heat isn’t worth it.

Essence fest is nowhere near as bad as the Classic. Essence fest tends to be an older crowd and people with money.

No I wasn’t.

I was a good 2 hours from a track and never sat on a horse til I was 4.

Anything else you’d like to teach me about myself?

OP, plenty of restaurants will be open. That was never an issue for me. Book early for turkey day dinner, though.

Bayou Classic isn’t near as big of a crowd as it used to be. Stay uptown. Go to City Park and eat at Cafe Du Monde, play mini golf, and rent bikes. Go to the zoo.
For 95% of the city you would never know the Classic was there.

Essence fest is actually a money maker for the city. Significantly different crowd than bayou classic.

And the city is extremely slow during June / July / August so essence provides a nice boost.

Do not bring your family to New Orleans for anything. It’s not a family-oriented place, and it’s dangerous.

This is true. Honestly I never really ever encounter any of it myself

Some very good advice in the comments re: avoiding FQ. Stay away from hotels in the CBD as well. There’s a new tradition associated with Bayou Classic of slow-riding around Canal St. in the downtown area. The police usually have to get involved at some point. Really, stay away from everything in that area of town, all the way to the Superdome.

I second the Fairgrounds suggestion, if it’s still in operation by then. The current owners want to get out from under their obligation, and the hope is that Gale Benson comes in and saves it. There are several different levels of meals there on T-giving, from a stand selling sandwiches, to a buffet in the Grandstand, to a seated meal in the Clubhouse. People come in from all over town to show off their holiday-themed costumes. It’s quite a scene. If the kids get tired, take them into the Grandstand, where there are bathrooms, elevators, and tiered-seating overlooking the track. Our weather is usually mild by Northern standards. That weekend, nearby City Park lights up the Celebration in the Oaks displays, which you should also put on your itinerary.

New Orleans is less kid friendly than Vegas.

At least Vegas has rides and all the various shows.

They serve food in Vegas and in every major city too.

This has all been resolved and Benson was never in the mix. Churchill was just swinging their dick around to intimidate and it didn’t work for them.
