Used to be kids knew their place and parents did better job controlling them. Nowadays not so much. I loved going to weddings as a kid. It’s up to the parents to control them so they don’t distract from everyone’s enjoyment.

That seems stupid. I’ve never seen a wedding where the flower girl or ring bearer weren’t allowed at the rehearsal dinner or reception. Even the ones that were “adults only reception” welcomed the kids who were actually part of the bridal party to attend the reception and rehearsal dinner.

The whole point of putting “adults only reception” on the invitation is so you don’t have half your guests showing up with kids that end up running amok and getting the host charged $80 a head for kids who might consume $5 worth of food and soda, not to exclude your actual flower girl or ring bearer.

shouldn’t your father be paying for it?

Children should only be seen and not heard & For gods sakes not at a wedding! If that’s the case then everyone should bring their dogs

We firmly said no young kids. We both have cousins who are 10-14ish, then second cousins that are <5, and we were firm that those young ones weren’t wanted. A couple of our cousins brought them anyway and it really pissed us off for 2 reasons. First, we had specifically told them no when they asked, and second because the parents had no fun and left an hour into the reception.

It didn’t ruin anything, and didn’t really even see them, but it’s the the principality of the matter.

I think children are way too young to get married.

We had a wedding where kids could come, but had "adult reception following" on the invitation and a few people in my fam got really butthurt over it.

I have no idea why. Since then, I've had a few kids and haven't thought twice of trying to bring them to somebody's wedding.

Our wedding was child-free and that was the general consensus among the parents, especially those that traveled from Boston to New Orleans. They couldn't have been happier about having a weekend away from the kids.

I'm honestly not sure I have ever noticed a difference in weddings with or without children.

This. I can’t imagine it being an issue worth mandating it tbh. Nobody actually wants to be at your wedding it’s important to keep that in mind, they’re there because you want to have a show for yourself. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, definitely something we do because of traditions and such. But now you’re gonna tell that person that doesn’t want to be there anyways that they have to arrange for a sitter because you have issues with their kids? I’d pass and stay home and cookout with my family tbh

From a financial standpoint, usually kids count towards the cost per person, so having 10-15 kids can add up. From that standpoint I can understand why it's worth mandating.
