Raid makes a ‘natural’ repellent that I use around the dog bowls- from the smell of it, it’s mostly lemon oil.

Just feed the cat enough for a single serving. Feed it twice a day, about a half cup of food each time.

Easy Peezy.

Put the bowl in a larger bowl with water in it.

It's tough. People saying put the food in a bowl full of water I don't think have outside cats.

Ants can and will swim

Add a little dawn to the water and swirl it around. The mix will kill the ants and for the most part keep raccoons from dirtying up the area

I had the same issue, wife is feeding a stray here. I got some DE (diatomaceous earth) and put a line around the bowl, no ants get in the food and it doesn’t harm pets.

What about raising the food bowl just so it's not on the ground?

I’ve never seen ants climb off the ground before.

I don't think the Dawn kills the ants. It lowers the surface tension of the water and makes it so insects can't walk across it. It's the idea behind the homemade fruitfly trap.

Supposedly works well as long as it stays dry. I'd assume it also must be in a place where it won't blow away too easily.

you might wanna try dietomaceous earth. it’s crushed sea fossil flour. cheap and nontoxic, be sure to buy food grade. i sprinkle my yard and porch/patio and pets outdoor bowls a few times a year. you can buy it in any garden center.

Search ant proof pet bowl on Amazon. The kind with the water most will probably work. Just keep water in it and pick up any food that gets knocked out.

Use coffee grounds. Ants won't go near it.

Get those pods where the ants eat the goo and bring some back to the Queen. You’ll have more ants initially but in 2-3 days you’ll never see them again.

The ants can't go through the water to get to the food bowl

This. Make a moat out of another larger bowl.

Never understood the point of an outdoor cat. Basically just a wild animal that comes to your house to eat

Two possible fixes:
Pick the bowl up after every feeding, wash it out; feed less at once and don’t leave uneaten food in it.
or
Feed the cat inside.

I would just spray some Bengal roach spray on the cement around the bowl.

Put the cat food bowl in a slightly larger bowl or shallow dish that has a small amount of water in it.
