I don’t know how many of you watched or noticed it, but in the postgame interview yesterday Saban said that something along the lines of getting the offense in better rhythm because they were letting the shot clock run down too much. All I could do was shake my head and laugh.

Anybody else see that?

This thread reminds me why I generally watch games alone. I hate being around the know it all sports fan almost as much as I hate being around the over the top obnoxious sports fan. My former roommate was insufferable when it came to watching games.

My late wife of 48 years was a big Tiger fan, but had no concept of what was happening on the field. She had no idea of the difference between a QB and a DT, but she loved the Tigers and cheered until she was hoarse for our team. Miss her so much.

Dammit, man.

Wanted to come in here and call OP a dumbass and to let people enjoy the game and then you post this.

May she Rest In Peace, sounds like she was something special

Nothing is worse than people who don't know shite about football trying to ask about it cause they in the same room.

I've come close to murdering my MIL over her 30 questions a second

There is a reason the networks pay "rules experts" to opine on several plays per game.

As long as they don’t ask stupid questions, it doesn’t bother me

The people paid to enforce the rules don't even know them half the time so how can you expect some chick looking to impress her boyfriend to?

How do some players play the game their whole lives and not know the rules? Same for coaches and even refs officiating the games.

Seems like a fan not knowing every minute, obscure rules is something not to get upset about.

There are probably two dozen people on these boards who think that if all 11 defenders rush the QB, and he has less than 3 seconds to throw the ball, that is the fault of the offensive line.

My parents got together in high school. My mom went to alot of games in high school. My dad played 4 years of college football. She went to every single home game. My brother played football from Pee-wee up until 10th grade when he went to band full-time. I played from Pee-wee up to 2 years in college. She went to every single one of our games. Yet she still doesn't seem to understand the rules of football. I still have to explain to her basic penalties or positions.

I have a mother in law that’s like this and father in law played 4 years in college as well.
She was on dance team in college.

Does she know rules. Nope.
It’s like she’s a black haired dumb blonde.

I’ve watched football for almost 40 years and I still can’t explain what a catch is.

When I moved to Dallas lot's of females told me they were big football fans. I thought, "How cool is this? Texas women like football."

Hardly any were football fans at all. They just liked being seen at Cowboy games, and going to Cowboy game watch parties.

Most LSU girls were the same way. I mean, they have to go, if they want to see other people on a Sat. night in the fall.

Gary Danielson was pulling for Bama so hard he forgot how forward progress works. I know you saw it on the UF first down. Gary couldn't believe that a UF player could extend the football over the first down line and get the forward progress. THIS HAPPENED and that dude gets paid millions to talk about football.

My parents and their friends chartered a youth football league when I was about 8. We started out with one team and one cheerleading squad, and I think it grew to 10 of each. My mom had coaches give a mini-clinic about basic rules each year because she didn’t want us doing a defensive cheer while we were on offense, etc. This was in the early 70’s & I’ve been obsessed with football ever since. At my boys’ games, I’d either sit at the end of the bleachers or follow the chains with the dads. I didn’t want to chit-chat during the game, I was way too intense.

That was kind of incredible and then he had the gall to question the expert on the broadcast.

Forward progress isn't some incredibly nuanced rule, it's well known and has been the same for decades

The Memphis/State punt return for a touchdown yesterday is an example. It is really simple what the refs got right and wrong but tons of State fans were arguing the ball should not have been live. The ball was never properly downed, period. There were errors on the play by the refs but the biggest errors were on the State special teams.

Even the SEC has come out and said the officials got that wrong.

They did not get that call wrong. Live ball.

I’ve watched soccer for 18 years. No fricking clue what the rules are. Offsides pisses me off though.

Like the guys that go to watch parties but socialize instead of actually watching the game

I'll be honest. Between watching high school, college and pros, in person, the rules become blurred. Some apply to high school that don't apply to college or NFL. Then some apply to College that don't apply to NFL and vice versa. I wish they made the same rules for football across all levels.
