Have you noticed the size of the United States?

Hey, y'all! I was wondering if we could chat about something pretty remarkable. You know how America seems to be less enthusiastic about train services like Amtrak compared to countries like Germany, China and Japan? I mean, they have those cool bullet trains, and California can't even seem to get their train project off the ground! So, why is America so darn car-dependent? But here's the thing, let's zoom in on NOLA and the bayou. Don't you think they could really use some better train services? I mean, picture this: cruising through the heart of the bayou on a train, immersing yourself in that unique Southern charm. It would be pretty amazing connecting NOLA to Houston, right? Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty and explore why NOLA and the bayou need improved train services in three paragraphs. Stay with me! First off, America has always had a love affair with cars. It's like they're part of our DNA or something. After World War II, we embraced the whole suburban lifestyle and car culture like nobody's business. Highways and personal vehicles became symbols of freedom and convenience. So, while countries like Germany and Japan were busy investing in sleek bullet trains, we were cruising down Route 66. Amtrak and train services took a backseat to our car obsession, plain and simple. But hold up! Let's not forget the geography and population density of NOLA and the bayou. Germany and Japan have these compact, densely populated urban areas, making it easier to justify high-speed rail. NOLA and the bayou, on the other hand, are spread out and not as urbanized. The long distances and lower population density make it harder to justify big investments in train infrastructure. However, that doesn't mean we don't need better train options! So, here's the bottom line: NOLA and the bayou could seriously benefit from improved train services. Have you ever gotten stuck in NOLA traffic? It's a nightmare! A good train system could help alleviate that congestion and offer an alternative for locals and visitors alike. And let's not forget about the bayou's natural beauty and unique culture. Imagine hopping on a train and leisurely exploring those breathtaking landscapes while supporting the local economy. It's a win-win situation, my friends! What do y'all think?

You know how there are certain streets you don’t go down after dark? Imagine being in a train with the people that are the reason you don’t go down those streets.

You could fit the entire train length in these countries combined into Texas. The reason countries in Europe can do things like train and walking cities is because they’re homogenous countries thousands of years old in a space a fraction of the size of America.
America is less than 400 years old with a wildly diverse population and a completely unique and new system of government. Those countries also don’t have to spend a ton on defense and rebuilt massive sections of their transportation infrastructure after 1950.
America is also founded on the freedom of the individual. Cars allow to go wherever you want whenever you want. Trains force you to go where they want you to when they want you to if they allow it.
But sure. Hurrdurr Americans drive cars ahyuuck

Would LCMC/Charity have their own trauma car on the train just in case?

Viewing the last 100+ years history and development/settlement of the US gives a clue.

I think every American City should be like Chicago when it comes to Trains. Was able to go around the entire city on the L train.

I agree we would stop subsidizing solar and wind right freaking now

building sports arenas in urban cities for billionaire sports teams,
As shitty as it is, do you know why cities KEEP voting for it? Because those home games and other events hosted in those massive arenas spur serious economic activities within the city limits.

Totally agreed. But one point of contention is it better to build one super nice stadium or 7 sub par stadiums?

And maybe Europe will one day do away with those awful laws banning owning a car in cities with rail availability.
It’s $1.99/L in Germany right now. That’s $7.46/gal. Plus, most of those cities developed well before automobiles became popular

That would be great. But the city has to be walkable once you get off the train. DC, NY, Chicago are great, walkable cities. Houston, for example, is not.

Just rode the train system in Germany over the last 3 weeks. Taxes do not pay for the train system the tickets to ride do. Relatively cheap too.
Problem here is, Germany has an honor system that most people go by. Anyone can hop on the train and get off. You are suppose to purchase either a destination ticket or an all day pass ticket. The train conductor will walk through the passenger cars and randomly check peoples tickets. The New Orleans and Houston passengers would abuse this system and would go bankrupt before it ever took off.
