This time feels different and even old folks that lived those decades can read the tea leaves and are afraid of the current situation.

I think a major difference with modern society compared to even just a few decades ago is the reliance we have on technology. I’m not saying our lives would be over if we lost our Iphones (would be a huge net positive for society), but at the current rate we are going you will not be able to purchase/repair/own?? anything that is gas powered. We will be eveb more reliant on electricity than we are now and that is incredibly fragile.
An EMP attack would be devastating.

This is actually a very interesting topic. So one of my New Year’s resolutions was to avoid politics in general. I stopped going to the TD poli board and I stopped watching anything related to the 24 hour news cycle.
Since then, my life has been exponentially turned around.
I will never again get bogged down into whatever machine this is/was that we’re staring into. I think I will vote Trump but I do think the powers-that-be may be aligned to stop him.
It’s very sad but I’d have expected my representatives to be able to angle it.

Hell, a lot of folks are actively calling for an end to American hegemony.
I think the economic arguments for America’s demise are a little funny too - America is the largest economy in the world and it’s not close. We make up 25% of global GDP.
Contrast that with components of the US economy - the entire financial services industry makes up something like 10% of US GDP. If you add real estate and insurance it goes up to ~20%. Yet we talk about individual banks in the US being “too big to fail.”
It’s not a perfect comparison but the moral of the story is this: If we go down, the rest of the world is going down with us.

I know what you’re trying to say but I’m not sticking my head in the sand. Again, I am paying enough attention to know what’s going on, but not paying enough attention to be stirred up against these fricked up machines. I just want to vote.

The other countries denouncing the dollar, China buying up the land in the usa and the debt we owe to them. UN paying for 100 of thousands of immigrants to come here etc. etc. etc. Right in the middle.
This administration with all its BS. The he/she/it/they/them/Woke shite this country has adopted we are the laughing stock of the world! Its a fricking shame

A few years ago, I would have said very close. Now, having watched my son and other kids in his high school coming through the grades, I have some hope. Many, if not most of them, are pretty level headed and can see the lunacy of those in their own and the generation in front of them. The ones in the headlines are always the idiots and the ones who have latched onto social media in an unhealthy way, but I really think their generation is going to be the one to turn this thing. Throughout our history, there has always been a pendulum swinging. It’s about to start moving the other way.
