Against my advice he bought a house in Bywater

He probably thought it was a good investment opportunity, and that the criminal presence wouldn't be too bad (like that it was exaggerated). It's maddening how the prices are flying up in neighborhoods that are some of the worst for crime.

This is from 2014:

"While the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods below St. Claude have been getting a lot of media attention, investors have been scooping up and rehabbing real estate above St. Claude. Sales have increased by 32.7% and prices have risen an astounding 116.4% since 2011."

I think we now know that the Shaw Group was somewhat built on smoke and mirrors, but if it would have been legit and would have been able to stay itself without merging into CB&I... would have been interesting for Baton Rouge and the state.

New idea: Give Amazon a really good deal on a new headquarters in Louisiana. We will be in the red at first, but they will own the world in about 10 years time. They currently employ 25,000 people in the Seattle area, and they are only getting bigger.

Basically the girls are forced into the "legal" channels of prostitution and give their profits to pimps, and they will never admit it out of fear for their lives.

Maybe they should criminalize pimping.

Caps on individual injuries
Higher causative burden of proof for trebled damages

What do you want the jury threshold to be? It should probably be raised to reduce the expense of litigation involved in empaneling a jury.

What do you mean by caps on injuries?

Where do you believe damages are currently trebled?

Don't ask the people who like it there, ask the people who say they hate it -- "why won't you consider moving to Louisiana?" "Why did you beat feet as soon as you graduated?"

Then listen to their answers and act on them.

It's not feasible. The population here is dumb as shite and will continue to elect leadership who either look to enrich themselves or will be so dissuaded by the corruption and frickery here that they do nothing(Jindal's second term). Sucks to say, but it is true

East Texas, Alabama, Georgia all have similar demographic makeups. Tennessee has poor black people in the west and dirt poor white people in the east who are really uneducated.
We still have corrupt politicians but nowadays no more corrupt than most other states.
All these states are doing pretty good right now so how can this be?

tough to attract new industry when most of the public schools are shite. Companies don't want their workers to have to send their kids to private school from the getgo.

A school voucher program may help, may not. I'd love to see it given a try though.

I don't mean just poor people. Even educated people in this state vote/support people who are "nice guys" and know their way around a gumbo.

Because with the exception Alabama, each state has one or more cities that are excelling.

Before you scream New Orleans is excelling, no its not.

1. Better roads for damn sure. It's a crying shame to know our "tax dollars " are being spent to pay someone (engineer) $200k/yr to build these lovely La. highways. I mean crap they can't build a simple overpass that is level with the road. ALWAYS a jaw jolting drop before and after.
2. Less senseless ( that obviously does not get channeled properly ) taxes.
3. Be more up to date in technology. Seems like La. is always 2-3 yrs. behind the rest of the nation.
