I can tell you from first-hand experience (circa 1976) that as a father you don’t want her there.

Is this the same thread where someone has a 4,000 sq ft house and keeps the thermostat at 68 and their light bill is $60?

$279 was highest so far. We have coast epa here. No doubt next bill breaks $300

ETA: 2900 living 4 ton and 3 ton ac
Changed the 3 ton unit during winter and seems to be helping as bills were higher last year.

Got the latest the other day and it's $371 and change. That is about to change though as I told the stepson it's time he found a place to live and vacate my man cave that he's been occupying since mid November of last year.

He got a good paying job 3 months ago and at his age, it's past time for him to seek his own living quarters once again. I gave him time to put a several thousand away to make the move very easy, so no excuses.

That will eliminate one 23K BTU A/C from running most of the time, plus the rest of the electricity to run a TV, computer, fans and lights that never seem to be turned off no matter what time of day or night.

eta2: I also line-dry most of my clothes. eta3: Have a water tank in the yard that sits out in the sun to pre-warm the water before it goes into the water heater.
eta4: I do all of my heavy cooking outside.

Damn, I always wondered who bought the Little House on the Prairie after the show ended

People leaving their inside temps at 64 or 79 degrees? Wtf
64 degrees is an operating room temperature, low enough so people wearing gowns and gloves aren’t hot.
79 degrees and you are sweating anywhere with humidity.

We rarely have ours set below 69 or above 73. I might turn it up to 76 or so when we go on vacation.

$385 but my got damn wife and my stupid arse stepson can’t close a door, shut the refrigerator/ice machine, adjust the Thermostat, turn off a light or fan off to save their life.

I go to bed and wake up before all of them with fans on, lights on, refrigerator door cracked etc etc. Drives me fricking nuts

Then hand them the bill and tell them pay it. Bet things change real quick after that.
