Financing for 12 years is my guess.

My wife spent an ungodly amount the past 4 months renovating the house. Well north of 200.
She's going to get a new vehicle later this year. I already told her that all of this bullshite and living in a 5th wheel for the past 4 months, I am going to spend at least as much on a new woodworking shop as she will on a vehicle.
So if she gets a 65k car, then that's my budget for outfittting my shop. And I'm not talking about the structure, just power tools and dust collection, air conditioning, etc. When it's done, it will be up to par with a cabinet maker's wood shop.

One of my family recently got a Honda Pilot and loves it. I would suspect it was less expensive than a Tahoe, so you might take a look at it.
We were shopping for a 3rd row and ended up buying a VW Atlas. Pretty much all of the 3rd row SUVs; Pilot, Traverse, Explorer, Atlas, etc, start at around $40k new.
Which I guess is a lot better than starting at $60k for the tanks you see on the road.
Obligatory "just get a van" statement.

Wife and I both have paid off cars. Mine has 90k miles on it and hers has 110k miles. We love our cars and figure we have 5-10 more years of no car payments

You mean same people who lose 10% of the vehicle's value as soon as it's driven off the lot? $6500 on a $65000 vehicle? How is that financially responsible?

How is she gonna cool that cooter on the way to brunch from Pilates without AC front seats?

Hard economic times will hit some people harder than others, just remember. live below your means and save.

Why on earth would anyone spend that much on a vehicle and how are you affording it? I know you fricks are buying them, otherwise they wouldn't be 65k
Some people are doing well. A lot of people are trying to look like they are doing well. My neighbor took on an extra job so his wife could drive one.

We couldn’t find cheap trim in a Yukon XL when we went to buy (seriously)

Last month I left the house to go acquire a Ford Expedition for the wife. We have a 2yr old and a new one showing up in 2 months, so we too needed some space.
I went to 3 dealerships, and they were absolutely miserable to work with. Had online listings at ~61k, and somehow got OTD at ~74k+ because of all I forfeit using their in house financing rate. One of them offered me their demo for 72k OTD.
Left the third one pissed off, had lunch, went to Honda, and drove off the lot with a brand new Touring trim Odyssey.
I got the same in-house rate Ford was offering, more bells and whistles, better fuel mileage, more space, less expensive maintenance, and I saved more than 25k OTD.
My stay at home wife is insanely happy to be rolling in a brand new van. frick ford.

I look at them, realize a Toyota 4-runner loaded is a better and longer lasting vehicle with better resale value and 15 grand cheaper and buy that instead

Repos are at an all time high.

If Toyota made a sequoia with the cargo space of a Yukon/suburban it would be the best selling SUV on the market.

Just buy a used one that’s coming off a lease. Save plenty of money. Usually get a good warranty too.

A lot of people are buying used too.
I was shopping for a 2-3 year old expedition for my wife before we decided to keep her 4Runner until it died.
There are some good deals out there that will keep you in the low to mid $40k range for a large SUV. Much better than $70k for a new one.

Most trailers in Geismar had $50k+ vehicles parked in front.
Those cars are gonna be covered in shite spray from the sewage plant soon.

I told mine I don't mind talking to the taxman. I just don't want to go to jail. However close to the line that is is ok with me.
