Search the food board

I always forget about the food board. Every time I am reminded of it I get lost in it finding some great posts. Thanks for the reminder. Lots of good info there.

We made some for the 4th, My Dad (82 yrs Old) claimed it was the best he ever had. I made the mix a day ahead of time so it was cold when we started. sat the churn inside an ice chest. Only took about a bag and a half of ice and it sat up really well. I couldn't find any rock salt so used water softener coarse salt. It worked really well.

Blue Bell is the most overrated ice cream in human history.

Tillamook is certainly better.

Hell, Breyer's is too.
breyers isn’t even ice cream

I can’t take anyone serious that prefers frozen dairy dessert over ice cream

like how they have to add “made with real milk and cream”!!

Rock salt, the wooden churn, the loud motor, and a jar of maraschino cherries. 4th of July Maw Maw style.

I's pay $1,000 to have a bowl of that ice cream this 4th of July

If I could sit next to my Paw Paw again in a rocker on their porch, that would be priceless

My 78 year old mom makes homemade ice cream every Saturday evening, May - September. It was something her mom did and she has carried it on. There’s always my brothers and grandkids popping in on Saturday afternoons.

Does anyone still make home made ice cream?

Made a batch of Peach ice cream Saturday for my dad. He's 75 and requested it. He sat and watched the maker and fed it ice a rock salt the entire time. When I was a kid, it was a tradition at my Grandmothers house that we always made it when we had a get together. Always made with a manual crank White Mountain freezer. He and my uncles would take turns cranking it while the kids took turns sitting on the top to hold it down so they could get it to the correct thickness. I haven't a clue what happened to the freezer when she passed away but needless to say at his age when he asks for something I try to make it happen.

Used to be a family tradition on July 4th

My uncles and my dad always had a heated competition of who made the best, they would have 15 of those ice cream makers running at once

All different flavors - vanilla was hard to beat though.

I always liked eating the ice with the rock salt on it.

Wtf.

It sure as hell is.

And I stand by my statement that it's better than the shite list of ingredients in Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla.

Here's the Breyers ingredients list for their Natural Vanilla
